Frustrated. Sweet Tea?

26 February 2008 - 07:14 AM

I've been Gluten-free for over a year now, and getting it mostly figured out. I've had a few gluten-incidents, and seem to have a pretty distinct reaction.

I eat out fairly often, and either am pretty lucky about CC, or am not super sensitive. Most of my reactions I've been able to traceback to a specific mistake.

My wife and I were in TX for a days last weekend, and she wanted ribs. WE went to County Line BBQ on the riverwalk in San Antonio, and I asked the waitstaff. Not really getting a good response, I decided to just not order anything to eat, but order a sweet tea (ice tea, sweetened).

Within 20-30 minutes, I was feeling like crap. 2 days later, I'm still dragging. WTH? Could it really be CC, but I eat out all the time? What would it be in Sweet Tea?

I found this link on the forum, but was curious if anyone else has had this issue? I've had hot barley tea (before diagnosis) , any chance something like that would be in a tea? I like tea, but I'll be worried aobut ordering it in the future.

Peru - Awesome Trip And I Didn't Get Glutened!

29 November 2007 - 04:13 PM

I haven't posted here much lately, busy with work, but I wanted to share.

My wife and I just returned from an 11 day trip to Peru, including hiking to Machu Picchu, one of the 7 Wonders of the World. It was fantastic, and I didn't get glutened once. I did get some stomach issues one day, but I think it was just normal travellers stomach issues, as my symptoms weren't the same or as severe as a glutening.

The food is amazing, and much of it gluten free. I made some spanish language cards to hand out, and was amazed and touched with how seriously EVERY waiter and restaurant took it. The Peruvian people are a gracious, wonderful bunch, and seemed genuinely concerned with my well being. And the food is mostly fresh, non-processed, and there are tons of gluten-free choices. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

Here is a link to pictures/stories from the trip.

Does This Look Safe?

14 August 2007 - 01:51 PM

my lips are chapped from hiking this weekend. I've been using this all day, and have a splitting headache, but that could easily be the lack of sleep I've had over the last few days.

here are the ingredients:
octinoxate, oxybenzone, petroltum

aloe, cetyl alcohol, flavor, isopropyl lanolate, Isopropyl Myristrate, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, Propylparaben, Stearic Acid, Vitamen E, Waxes

Has Anyone Been To Peru While Gluten-free?

13 August 2007 - 05:04 AM

I'm heading to Peru in November, and looking for hints. We're hiking the Inca trail, and looking for a guide service that can accommadate.
