#639447 When My Child First Went Gluten-Free, I Noticed _______

Posted by on 14 September 2010 - 07:52 AM

My dd was 4 when she was diagnosed--no more tummy aches (that was her only symptom)

My son was 2 1/2. Major changes in a matter of a week:
All Autistic tendancies were GONE!!!!!
gained 3#
started speaking in complete sentences
started potty training
started eating us out of house and home
started interacting with kids at school
no more brain fog-he could concentrate on 1 activity for more than a few minutes
greatly reduced amount of tantrums and frustrations

Honestly, he was a different kid and this is no exaggeration, all this happened within the first week. His teachers were telling me by day 2 that he was a totally different kid and people who saw him regularly-like my parents and girlfriends-couldn't believe the change.

The hardest part was that in 3 months, he went from the 10% in height and weight to the 75% for height and the 50% for weight (and has remained exactly at that point for the past 3 years!!). He was in so much pain! He went from wearing 12-18mo clothing (as a 2.5 year old) to wearing 3T clothes. His shoe size went from a 6mo old infant size, to a size 7 in those 3 months as well. It was CRAZY!

#636252 Getting Back With Sweetie, He's Going Gluten Free

Posted by on 01 September 2010 - 07:04 AM

I agree--Diabetes and heart disease go hand in hand. Smoking is the #1 cause of stroke and heart attack. Put the 2 together and it is pretty much a death sentence.

I do NOT say this at all to be mean or callus in any way. These are the people I work with, what I went to school for, the people I try to help every day. If he makes any changes in his life, the most important would be to get off the cigs (for you too, if he's smoking in the cab with you) and get the diabetes under control--which I'm sure the gluten-free diet will help with! :)

#630934 "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"

Posted by on 11 August 2010 - 02:35 PM

This just irks me! In this economy, the fact that stores like Sephora are even still alive is amazing to me! They are expensive, and then to add bad service on top....who would buy their stuff?

I've only been to Sephora once, but the gal working asked my dd if she wanted to try some makeup on. I told her no, because of gluten, blah, blah, blah... She said, "Oh, let me show you all the gluten-free stuff we have!" I was shocked! Her SIL happened to have celiac as well, so she knew everything about all the products, and dd was more than happy to be her guinea pig ;) Soooooo, if you're ever at the Vancouver (Washington) mall, check it out :)

#625600 *lucy's* Cookies........ Anyone Tried Them?

Posted by on 21 July 2010 - 04:07 PM

They supposidly use certified gluten-free oats. My kids have tried them, are super sensitive, and no reaction. None of us liked them though, the bean flour taste was too strong.

#620284 Getting Married, Scared For My Future Children

Posted by on 29 June 2010 - 07:23 AM

I don't have Celiac and neither does my husband, but we passed it to both of our kids...... Out of your control. My kids are the healthiest kids in their circle of friends. I don't feel bad at all that they are forced to eat a healthier diet with minimal processed foods. My husband has a really rare eye disease which was a factor when we were ready to conceive, we went through all of the genetic counceling, but ultimately, we both wanted kids badly, it's something that is manageable and fixable, so we went forward.

Preface--I'm not telling the following to be hurtful in any way shape or form, but this is life and it's ALL in God's hands...

I have a coworker who's wife had a baby last year. Normal pregnancy, everything looked great. Baby started having seizures the minute he was born and is now severely brain damaged. Neither parent has a seizure disorder

Husband was born totally normal, his sister was born with CP, another coworker had the same scenario

You can't control what God gives you. Personally, I think if you want to have kids, go for it!!!

Soooo sleepy! Took full advantage of the one sunny day we've had in weeks. I'm too tired to get up and make dinner for my kids. Would probably just do a cereal night if dd didn't have a friend over ;) It was a great day and my first modeling chocolate rose didn't turn out half bad--not picture quality yet, but maybe tomorrow ;)

My DD has one there....cat's eyes and whiskers. I know she said it was more sensitive because there's no fatty tissue there, but I don't know the extent of the pain.

I got an airbrushed one today for 3$. It's scented and everything :P Thought I'd try it out and see if I still like it in a week....I really want to get the Celtic love knot. It's lovely and meaningful--that's what I've been searching for for years!!

Then today my brother calls. He mentions how little money he has but doesn't actually ask for any, and I'm not going to offer if he doesn't have the balls to ask.

And I don't want to give up my chance at this class.

So now I feel guilty. I don't want to feel guilty, but I do.

I know it's been said over and over, but take the class!!! Went through some similar stuff with my brother too, he was living with us temporarily while he was "getting back on his feet" but he actually started stealing money from me AND my kids to support his heroin habit. It was devastating! I kicked him out and he went AWOL for months. My mom finally tracked him down and I ended up leaving home for a few days to help detox him. I told his this was the last help of any kind he would ever get from me unless he cleaned himself up for good and he'd NEVER see another dime from me no matter what. He was 2 years clean last week :)

Gawd. . . ..... .. . .... . .. I feel so.. . . ...... .. ....exhilarated and.. . ... . . .naughty. . . . ..

I know this member is a male from his profile info. . . . . ...... . . .Gawd! There was no photo.. . ..I plussed him and I didn't even see his face. . . . . . ....the whole time. ...I have no idea what he looks like! So casual, so brazen... . . ... . . .... . .

What has become of me???

Wow! Liberating for sure!! Did you use protection???

The people you make cakes for do not tell you what they have in mind? They have great confidence in you. For a college grad, books sound good to me. Post pics here or on da book, please.

Depends on who its for. People I know usually give me free reign which can be more stressful sometimes!

I missed a lot today! I know a guy who's penis was getting really irritated, then swollen, inflammed and extremely painful and they couldn't figure out why. When he finally went to the dr they found a long piece of his wife's hair that had gotten wrapped around the shaft. It was almost impossible to see!!

Dh has a client who almost died last year while having sex. Got a little too rough-one slip and he broke his penis. When this happens, that massively engorged blood vessel pops sending blood flying ALL over the room. Most men don't survive this. Thank god his girlfriend was quick to call 911.....

I knew my bff would have a great story to rival mine since she's an ER charge nurse and sure enough, they had a guy recently with a vibrator stuck up there-TURNED ON! Of course everyone had to come in and listen to his heart, cuz you could hear it with the stethascope! He ended up going to surgery because everytime she thought she had a hold of it, it kept vibrating his way up the chute!

Btw, that vinegar bottle was about 6"!!!
