Topics I've Started

Baking Question

02 May 2008 - 12:43 PM

Quick question - I've replaced my baking pans, but I was curious whether o r not I should replace my bowls. They're stainless steel, and I would tend to think that a good scrubbing would make them safe to use, but I wanted to cjeck with those who are a little more experienced in this area. Thanks!

Bone Pain And Stiffness

22 April 2008 - 07:29 PM

I'm very young to be asking a question about this, but I'm finding that I am having a lot of stiffness and, more recently, have developed some pain in the bones of my legs. I'm a little concerned about possibly a Calcium deficiency. The bone density scan is one that I have not had yet, but I was wondering if these could be symptoms of something other than osteoporosis. Thanks!

gluten-free Baby Finger Foods?

21 April 2008 - 11:39 AM

Hello!
I was dx with Celiac just over 6 months ago now, and I'm very hesitant to give my DD anything with gluten in it. For one thing, it's stressful to have it around the house, and babies aren't exactly tidy - I just know it would be in my mouth and I'll be sick all over again! Anyhow, there are all these companies that make little foods for babies - the puffs from Gerber are the ones that come to mind, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes products like this that are gluten-free? If not, any suggestions for fun finger foods to start my baby on?

What Are The Tests I Should Ask For?

29 March 2008 - 08:24 AM

I had positive blood work for Celiac and a positive skin biopsy for DH back in Oct. Unfortunately, I didn't get any follow-up care because I was out of country, and I suppose because the doctor didn't really know much about Celiac. Anyhow, I am finally back home and I want to find a doctor who is a little more knowlegeable about Celiac, or at least willing to learn, and in order t be prepared, I want to go in knowing what to ask for as far as tests are concerned. Can someone please list for me the usual tests that are conducted for Celiac patients? Thanks!

Breastfeeding And Needing Help

03 March 2008 - 10:10 PM

I am curious if anyone else has had much experience with the effects of Celiac on breastfeeding. I was diagnosed less than three months after my baby was born, and I decided to continue to breastfeed her while I was trying to figure out the gluten-free diet. So here's the problem - I've lost all my pregnancy weight and an additional 10 lbs, putting me underweight. I have really struggled with low energy, bouts of depression, and just generally not feeling well. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this and has suggestions as to how to manage it. I'm trying to up my caloric intake, and really focus lately on getting more protein, as it seems to help with the constant nausea, but I'm barely keeping my weight constant. My baby is thriving really well, but I'm feeling like I've been dragged through the street under a bus. I don't want to wean her, as I know that breastfeeding can provide some protection from her getting Celiac disease.
