Hungry Jack Syrup

04 April 2010 - 07:33 AM

Wow! I haven't posted in a looong time and things have changed! Anyway, does anyone know the status of Hungry Jack regular syrup? The ingredients look okay and Smuckers is a brand that will disclose gluten but I wanted to see if anyone had directly contacted the company and gotten a positive answer. Thanks!

Allergen And Gluten Free Food Box

27 September 2009 - 06:52 AM

I picked up my allergen free food box from Angel Food Ministries yesterday. This was my first time ordering it and I was a bit apprehensive. It included one pound each of frozen chicken nuggets, chicken fingers, chicken patties, and steak fingers. It also included dry mixes of vanilla cake, muffins, pancakes/waffles, and cobbler topping. All that for $35! We had the chicken nuggets and vanilla cake last night and my kids really liked it! I highly recommend it, especially for those that are newly diagnosed and are a bit lost as to what to cook. All the food is free of the top allergens, including gluten. There are no income restrictions. You can order as many boxes as you want. You can place your order online and pick it up a few weeks later at the nearest location (usually a church). I wish I would have known about this sooner! The website is www.angelfoodministries.com.

Oct. Issue Of Vegetarian Times

The October issue of Vegetarian Times has lots of info on eating gluten free. It even has a completely gluten free kid's birthday party menu.

My Vent....

14 September 2009 - 05:27 PM

This year for social studies my son's class switches with the other fourth grade class which means he has a different teacher. This woman has been teaching for 30 years and is set in her ways. She is not flexible in any way. One of the projects she has my son's class working on is a cookie in the shape of our state. The kids make the cookies then use decorations to designate landmarks. Sure, it's a fun project, but when you have a child with severe food restrictions in your class you have to be flexible! My son has an IHP (Individualized Health Plan- like a 504 Plan) and one of the accomodations is for teachers to let me know in advance of projects that require food so I can get an alternate for my son. This teacher did not do this! I only found out about the project because my son told me! Now I have to scramble to find sugar cookie dough, specific icing and decorations that will match the rest of the class. We live in a small town and that means I must travel 90 minutes round trip to go to a store that sells gluten free sugar cookie dough. When I confronted this teacher about all of this she still didn't get it! She said she would provide all the icing and decorations but when I explained to her that they must be gluten free and not come in contact with the other student's gluten filled cookies she acted like I was overreacting! I am outraged. I am so upset I might go to our principal (I teach in this school too). She is not following the IHP which, by law, she must follow.

Okay, deep breath, end of vent.

Wild Dreams

10 September 2009 - 04:07 PM

For the past several months I have been having the same dream. I eat loads of gluten filled food then suddenly realize I am eating food that is going to make me sick. I then get a feeling of dread and I wake up. Does anyone else have dreams like that? I am not tempted at all by off limits food so I'm not sure why I keep having this dream.
