In Topic: Gluten And Vertigo

If you're just talking about dizziness... that's the first symptom I have if I've had something with gluten. A dizzy, disorientation in the head that makes things feel like they're moving (usually rotationally) when they're not. For me, it only lasts 15-30 minutes, and happens 15-30 minutes after I first ingest the offending substance, but it sure ain't fun. (I describe it to friends as something like the feeling of being drunk, without it being funny in any way whatsoever.)

I had this problem pretty much throughout all of my childhood. I was diagnosed with Celaics at age 15 (I'm now 21) and the dizziness has since then stopped, but I used to get that all the time and it never stopped until I was diagnosed. It was awful!!

Thanks so much for all of your responses! This has helped a lot. I am going to try and get in with an allergist and talk to them about it and hopefully get an epi pen! Would pistachios still be ok to eat? I don't seem to react to them but I'm not really sure if they are related to peanuts or not.

In Topic: How To Make Boyfriend And Friends Understand

07 May 2012 - 02:53 PM

Hi everyone,
I'm 15, been diagnosed for 4 months, and still struggling a lot with my health, not feeling normal yet.

And my friends and boyfriend don't really understand, and don't take it seriously.

I'm super sensitive and I've been researching and have found that even if you kiss someone who's eaten gluten you can get contaminated. And I've spoken to my boyfriend about this and he's not willing to read books about celiacs or try and gluten free foods or anything..
And with friends and boyfriend like that it just makes everything a whole lot worse!
Any ideas?

I totally understand what you are going through. Its very hard to get people to understand the concept of it all. Especially a boyfriend. I was diagnosed when I was about 15 and I am now 21. I tell my boyfriend tho that if he wants to kiss me, he has to brush his teeth frist. It works great that way too. He doesn't mind brushing his teeth after eating wheat before we kiss. Hope this helps and good luck!!
