Posting For Squirmy -- Trouble Accessing Site

14 May 2013 - 05:29 PM

I'm having trouble accessing the site. Maybe you can post this for me in the Board Forum/Technical Help. When I use my bookmark I get bad gateway. The only way I can get into the site is typing it into my browser address bar. And THEN the only way I can access anything w/o getting "bad gateway" is to go to "my content" & then I can only access things that were my content. I can't get to anything else at all or I get "bad gateway". I'm having to take a real long way around the barn even to send you this pm by going through my messenger thing. Anything else & I get bad gateway. Can you report this please?

Gluten Free Bread - Best Deals

01 May 2013 - 06:33 PM

I found out today late in the day that Sprouts had Glutino Genisus bread on special for 2.99 per loaf -- it was expiring so I sent a son down to buy as many loaves as he could.

I usually stock up on Udi's, Canyon Bakehouse and Glutino whenever they are on special -- especially Udi's and Glutino as they are purchased frozen -- so it really doesn't matter when we buy it.

Got me thinking -- perhaps a thread were we can post if we see a very good deal on this gluten-free staple???

What A Difference A Year (Well Four Years) Makes!

13 April 2013 - 06:07 AM

Good Morning Everyone!

Many of you know that mine has been a very long road to gain health -- often we focus on what we can't have or do as it is tough to lose food and activities - sometime it feels like we will never get them back.

So today I share:

One year ago I was in the midst of the worst flare of my life -- I call this my "Human Amoeba" stage.  With the help of my husband and sons I slowly crawled off the couch - yep - for three months I wasn't even able to walk to my bed -- I felt like I was dying and everyone in my family thought the same thing.  More research and a few more food adjustments and I become vertical in the Fall of 2012.

Today -- this is my day:

Wake to pain and unbelievably stiff joints.

Climb in epsom salt bath for 20 mins

Green Smoothie, then coffee

Off to Skilled Nursing Facility to check on Mom

Walk in a a fundraiser for NAMI

Visit a famer's market that my old high school has created to raise funds for the school

Tour two retirement/nursing homes

Go to a housewarming party for a young friend that I helped find good contractors to improve their recently purchased home

Collapse in my comfy chair with a glass of wine :)

I post this to be clear -- I am not 100% - I have days with unbelievable pain, serious allergic type reactions can happen at any moment -- but I am hugely better than I was one year ago -- I have a life and am getting stronger.

For those struggling -- hang in there -- it does get better if you keep looking for awswers!

To those that helped me get here -- thank you -- I couldn't have made it without everyone's advise :)

Can Food Intolerance Cause Anaphylaxis? Yes.

03 April 2013 - 07:05 AM

So...for the past 16 months I have been wondering if I'd ever have to put the stinking epi-pens we carry everywhere since my first anaphylactic type reaction to sunflower seeds back in November 2011 to use - hoped I never would, but better safe than sorry.

On Easter afternoon I was feeling great - happily cooking and baking up a storm for the family -- when out of no where my abdomen swelled up - huh - wtf I think to myself - had only had fresh vegies and freshly baked chicken thus far that day -- then my breathing started getting bad --- double huh -- hubby dismissed as just another strange reaction as I took my first benedryl -- within 10 mins my throat swelled up and it was official -- the second anaphylactic episode is FAR worse than the first - I gasped epi pen - hubby ran and got it and stabbed me - it was our first time so I wasn't even sure he did it right -- but there was a spot of blood on my white pants so he knew he got me -- throat opened up pretty quickly - so I added second benedryl -- five mins later throat started swelling again so off we went to emergency -- hubby drove very, very fast and stuck me a second time in route.  A couple very long hours later I'd had a total of three doses of epi, four benedryl - two pills plus a couple shots thru the IV - three breathing treatments, a couple bags of fluid and an EKG to make sure the epi wasn't giving me a heart attack - fun times  ;)

I was not going to post, but thought it important to remind folks -- if they are having "allergic" type reactions - even small ones, but are testing negative to food allergies - talk to their doc about getting an epi-pen -- had we not done this back when I had my first bad allergic reaction to an "intolerance" -- well - let's just say I am very thankful we had them and everyone in my family knows where they are and how to use them.

The scariest part was not anything above -- the scariest part is we still have no idea what triggered it.  Allergist is going to run yet another set of blood and patch tests -- hopefully we'll find something this round.

When in doubt - carry epi-pens!

Do You Wonder What All The Fuss Is About Gmos?

19 March 2013 - 05:52 AM

Good Morning All-

I have to admit until very recently I had no idea what the big deal about GMOs was....

A GMO labeling law proposed in California last Fall was gaining momentum and looked as if it would pass - then Monsanto and other big chemical corporations threw a ridiculous amount of advertising dollars at California -- saturating the airwaves and tv commercials with claims that our groceries would become very expensive should Prop 37 pass -- it worked, the prop failed to pass with 47% of the vote -- my own parents voted early -- before I explained how important it was -- they thought they were helping the younger generation by not causing an increase in food cost.

If you live in a state with a GMO labeling proposition -- learn the facts aside from Big Chemical's propaganda!

Here is a great video -- it is long -- so pop some corn or grab whatever safe snack you enjoy and give it a watch.

Thanks :)
