My First Christmas Dinner Where I Didn't Feel Like I Was Going To Die!

26 December 2009 - 06:49 PM

this was my first xmas dinner since being diagnosed 10 months ago. every Christmas before i got diagnosed i would have to lie down after dinner and would have horrible stabbing stomach pains for hours. i would feel like i had a stomach flu or food poisoning. i always blamed myself that i had over eaten, or that it was too much fat/sugar. my favorite food of the dinner was always bread stuffing, pie, and other cookies as well as the massive morning cinnamon buns. last year i even spent the whole day after vomiting. but this year my gluten free Christmas dinner was amazing and i felt full but not at all sick afterwards. my mom got diagnosed with celiac this year too so we made a sausage, mushroom, cranberry, rice stuffing, use rice flour in the gravy and my mom made gluten free brownies with chocolate sauce, raspberries and whipped cream for dessert (definatley a hit!) we also had a boiled red cabbage dish, mashed carrot and turnip, asparagus and mashed potatoes which are all normally gluten free. we also had to do most things dairy free because of my nephew's dairy allergy. my future mother in law also made plenty of gluten free things for me to eat for brunch, eggs and turkey and a turnip and cheese casserole.

anyway i feel really blessed that everyone in my family, and my boyfriend's family have been so great, and also that i will never have to spend the day after Christmas curled up in bed all day.

anyway just wanted to share and i hope you all had a pain free and happy christmas!

im pretty bummed about it. 4 weeks couch bound in the best part of summer does not sound fun.

Does Anyone Have A Good Bean Flour Bread Recipe?

22 April 2009 - 11:11 AM

hey all,
i'm insulin resistant due to having poly-cystic ovarian syndrome and need to watch eating high glycemic foods (ie rice). i was wondering if anyone had a bread recipe using mostly bean flour or other high protien/high fiber recipes? i have a bread maker as well so if its a bread machine recipe that would be good. Thanks.

Frusterated With My Boyfriend

19 April 2009 - 07:28 PM

hi all,
im frusterated and need to vent. my boyfriend (whom i live with) dosnt brush his teeth after eating gluten. even before we go to bed he dosnt brush his teeth. he does in the morning before going to work but thats before im even up so it dosnt do me any good. we litereally never kiss anymore which makes sex really weird and unromantic. i resent that he cant even do something that a normal adult should do before going to bed every night. he can't do it for himself and he can't do it for me. i honestly don't get it. he smokes too which is gross. he chews a lot of gum so maybe because his mouth is minty he thinks its clean? i dont know! he also gets whiney when i tell him he cant eat crackers or cookies in bed. we just redecorated the bedroom with new carpet and everything! even if i wasnt gluten free i wouldnt want to eat in bed.

i know we need to sit down and i need to tell him how i feel but right now he's assleep and im frusterated so i figured id vent to you guys.

Anyone Else With Positive Doctor Experiences?

31 March 2009 - 09:34 AM

i thought id start a thread for people to share their positive doctor experiences. it seems like a lot of people on here are frusterated with their doctors, god knows ive had some bad ones, but there are good ones out there! my doctor is awsome. he likes that i do research about things and have ideas, he likes that im proactive, if i ask for a test he'll give it to me no matter how unlikley it is that i have it. hes also really easy going. he wants his patients to have a chest xray every year and i refuse because i dont like to have unnecessary radiation and hes totally cool with it. i just feel really fortune to have a doctor that listens to me, and is understanding, easy going and dosent think that hes god.

if you live in ottawa, ontario, canada send me a PM. he's taking patients!
