False Negative Tests In Children Under 5

16 February 2010 - 02:20 PM

I got my son tested today and my Dr mentioned that there maybe a change the results maybe a false negative because of his age (he just turned 4) has anyone ever heard of this before? He's still on a gluten filled diet right now unless he wants cookies, all baked goods are gluten free because of me :)I"m wondering if I'm just stressing over nothing, which I tend to do when it comes to my 3 little ones.

Blood In Bm

16 February 2010 - 07:58 AM

I know this is a tad gross but I have celiac and my son is 4 and today he had blood in his BM. Not sure if this is a sympton in children but we are off to the Dr's to get him checked out and get his test done today instead of waiting for his upcoming appointment. I was just wondering if any other child has had this. He complained of a stomach ache and then didn't make it to the bathroom (yep lucky me!) He says he feels much better now but I just want to get him checked out. Thanks karen

4 Year Old With Stomach Pain

21 January 2010 - 07:00 AM

I'll try to make this as short as possible. My four year old started complaining about stomach pains a little while back. I thought it maybe a stress thing because his daily schedule has change. We started driving my oldest to school and picking her up everyday. Over the Christmas break the complained a little more than usual but I figured it was because we were out of town and it wasn't home (he's a home body) Now not to compare him to his sisters but his BM are looser than "normal" but I wouldn't consider them diarrhea. I still have him in pull ups because when he complains about his stomach pain he usually ends up with nasty diarrhea. I took him to the Dr's for his regular well child check up and explained everything to the Dr. And since Wyatt was getting 4 vaccination shots the Dr and I thought it would be a good idea to monitor his diet and when he gets these pains. Well I'm on the fence on getting him tested. Because I have celiac should I still get him tested or just say hey no more wheat/gluten for you? The Dr thinks it maybe a stress thing because he's not in pain all day and his growth charts aren't being affected. Is getting this confirmed worth it?

Can A Celiac Live In A Gluten House?

10 December 2009 - 06:16 AM

Hello all,

I have an odd question. I would like to know how many of you out there still live in a gluten house? I do ALL the cooking in our house so I don't mind having gluten products in the house. The only time my husband does any kind of cooking it's bread and cookies or cakes for him and the kids. And it actually works well for us. I haven't had any cross contamination and they still get the goodies that they like. I've recently met some people who are Celiac and they give me a strange look when I tell them that yes we still have gluten in our house and yes I will make (from scratch) a batch of cookies for my kids. Is this strange? When I was first diagnosed my husband and I had a long talk about making the whole house gluten free but I want to teach my kids to take responsablility for themselves. I understand that my kids have a chance of being Celiac at some point in their lives and I want to show them that yes you can live in a gluten world and not get sick. Is this wrong?
