Topics I've Started

Startling Realization? Subway Bread.

12 May 2009 - 04:08 PM

I was thinking back today about foods I used to eat quite frequently and how I reacted to those foods. I don't ever remember reacting to Subway's bread, but perhaps I reacted but just not as quickly as I had to other products. Is this reason to question legitimacy of my gluten intolerance? Thanks!

Is Anybody Else Furious With Reader's Digest?!

12 May 2009 - 03:43 PM

I am so angry! I recieved my reader's digest and it completely criticizes Elizabeth Hasselbeck's gluten free lifestyle! They acknowledge that she has celiac disease, but says something along the lines of us being able to consume trace amounts of gluten and that only 1% of people actually have gluten intolerance. The article also suggests that it is better for your health to eat gluten rather than avoid it! I am so upset! It's like they do not even acknowledge the dangers in consuming products we are allergic to! Am I over-analyzing this or did anybody else feel the same way?

Okay I just realized that 1 in every 133 people is a little less than 1% lol so I can't really be mad about that...

Symptoms Of Dairy Intolerance?

12 May 2009 - 03:38 PM

I know I could just google this but I feel like it would be more useful to ask people who actually encounter these issues daily, what are the main symptoms of dairy intolerance? My uncle is lactose intolerance and I am starting to feel sick after drinking milk and sometimes I am unable to sleep when I drink milk or eat cheese. I don't know if this is due to the time of day that I am consuming these products or if they are really causing me issues. I have been on a gluten free diet for about 6 months and I wonder if it's just spring allergies causing me to react to dairy? Is that possible? Help is appreciated =) Thank you!

Ignorant Step-father

09 May 2009 - 04:23 PM

I still live under my parents' roof and it seems that my step father always feels he is right about MY celiac disease complications even though he does not experience what I experience. He claims that doctors have told me that I can eat things with gluten in them because I will not react to everything, I have to eat things with gluten to find out if all gluten products will affect me. He says I just ignored the doctor saying this and that my breathing difficulties, constipation, uncomfortable bloating, and skin irritations are caused by me thinking about them too much. He says I am overreacting and a hypochondriac. It's confusing because he has spent tons of money on gluten free food and doctors appointments, so why is he being so hypocritical now? What do I do so that he will stop poisoning me with gluten? Any help is greatly appreciated =)

Not Good! Vision Scare!

07 May 2009 - 04:45 PM

I was accidently glutened by multigrain cakes which I had mistaken for rice cakes and I noticed double vision, which resulted in awful migraines for about a week. Has anybody else had such longlasting, strange vision issues? I wear contacts and I don't know if that has anything to do with it? This had never happened until recently. Thank you!
