In Topic: Can You Be "intolerant" To Dairy Even If You Don't Have Any Gi Sy...

13 June 2009 - 02:34 PM

I have been gluten-free for 2 months and 1 month of dairy. I tested positive through enterolab for both. I went through the worst withdrawal from dairy. I think I am still going through it. I have had frequent migraines, headaches, crippling fatigue, irritability and some ear canal pain.

However when I gave up dairy I finally now have nice daily bowel movements. :)

those symptoms you just described are what i feel when i DO eat dairy. i also get really bad sinus congestion. i have ZERO digestive problems with dairy, just this stuff, sinuses and itchy skin. dairy sucks and if you think about, itīs gross. itīs meant for a baby cow, not you, and it comes from udders. if you are having trouble giving it up, just focus on where dairy comes from. ask yourself what is the difference between you consuming milk from a cow and some other animal, letīs say... your dog or cat, consuming milk from your mother. itīs weird.

look up the differences between an allergy to dairy (not always digestive symptoms, includes skin reactions, even dark circles under your eyes) and lactose intolerance (the stereotypical thing in the movies when someone eats dairy they have to rush to the bathroom, but not always this extreme obviously)

tofutti ice cream btw it delicious and safe

hi everyone,
i canīt believe what iīm reading. i thought it was RIDICULOUS to blame my food on food, specifically gluten (and dairy), but reading your responses has made me think iīm not that crazy. itīs insane how nasty i get "all of a sudden" until i realized i accidentally ate something with gluten (still relatively new to the diet). i donīt get severe gastrointestinal problems like my sister, who is also celiac, just mood and energy.

i actually had to take a medical leave from school for anxiety and depression and i didnīt feel ready to go back until being on this diet for a while. my doctor connected my constant anemia with celiac, but not my mood problems (because iīm a woman, he attributed it to my period even when i told him itīs all the time that iīm short tempered and easily irritated.) SO HAPPY right now! i hope you all are having a great day.

btw iīm on lexapro now and it works great. the medication i was on before made me crave carbs and sugar... i was taking this before i knew i was celiac and i kept craving all the foods tha tmake me sick! effexor is what i was on and itīs tough to get off of it but lexapro- perfect for me

In Topic: Places To Eat/get Food In Gainesville, Fl

Hey! Iīm from Gainesville too and these also have options:

Satchelīs (23rd ave. near Waldo Rd.) GLUTEN FREE PIZZA!!!!! great to go with everyone because they have the most amazing pizza in gville and an incredible salad

Leonardoīs by the slice has salads with only homemade dressing that is gluten free

for those of you, like me, who are also allergic to dairy, KARMA CREAM HAS FLAVORS OTHER THAN FRUIT!!!!! they have all vegan ice cream and most of the ice creams are gluten free. flavors change but one is green tea. the servers are educated on celiac and gluten so they wonīt give you a weird look when you ask about gluten ;)

first, to the twin who has a non celiac twin- iīm sure your twin will apologize at some point when he or she realizes how insensitive that was!

to the original post- it can be tough i know. my best friend sometimes yells at me to "get that look off of my face" when he is eating a pizza or garlic bread etc. and my eyes kinda glaze over. iīm not craving his food as much as pondering how crazy it is that that food was the culprit for making me sick for so long. itīs also tough when you go to a party and someone offers you a beer, you say no thanks, they ask why, and you explain and you get "omg i would die without beer." although that is a sad state for them to live in, it will probably annoy you just as much. all i can say is that you will get used to it, and you could also suggest going to other places where they would have something for you to eat. OR bake some amazing looking cookies or brownies and they will beg you for your own special food.

In Topic: Please Help! Doctor In Gainesville, Fl?

Hi!!! I was born and raised in Gainesville and am here for the summer. I found out I was celiac in Chile and am still trying to find a good doctor here. Iīm stillll trying BUT ones to avoid: Elizabeth Sanders, Chodosh, Libach. Also Shands SUCKS. They are a very prestigious hospital but Iīve never had a good doctor there. Iīm not joking, I had to be hospitalized for a severe dairy allergy (before I found out about my celiac too) and because the doctors couldnīt figure out my problem, they assumed my mom had been poisoning me. I will keep you updated but maybe we can start a support group here!!!
