Iron Defficiency Anemia

07 May 2013 - 03:15 PM

Hi -- My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with celiac at age 9. At her recent check up we had concerns about very heavy periods and tests revealed iron deficiency. Her celiac panel is negative which probably means she's doing a good job with the diet. She's very strict about it. The regular peditrician says this is a usual adolescent issue. Any advice or similar experience?

thanks,

Sleep Away Camps In New England?

29 December 2012 - 02:16 PM

The snow is coming down and I am thinking of summer. Has anyone had good luck with a regular sleep away camp in New England? Can you tell me about it? I know some you have to sign up for months in advance. We did try camp celiac but although my daughter liked it she isn't that interested in returning there.

Thanks very much,

Sarah

Anxiety?

03 July 2012 - 09:33 AM

Does anyone have books or websites that they can recommend for a close friend of mine. Her son suffers from severe anxiety and is very fearful. He just finished first grade. She has been getting counseling and help at school. I suggested to her that it could be food related or physical. I know for example that my daughter's emotional behavior improved a lot after she was diagnosed with celiac and she changed her diet. She had lots more energy and is much better able to cope with things. My sister had another friend and her sons react pretty strongly to food coloring and it has a huge effect on their behavior. Any suggestions, resources or advice would be great. I know there are a number of families who do gluten free with their kids for behavior who may not have celiac. I did suggest she may want to have him tested for celiac since he is so thin and small as well. I am not sure she thinks this is a problem though...

Thanks,

Pediatric Use Of Miralax

29 May 2012 - 08:33 AM

Hi - Just thought I'd point out that the NY Times and other papers have had some articles recently about the pediatric use of Miralax. When my daughter was first diagnosed with celiac she had to use large quantities for cleanouts. We had some weird side effects and switched to other things.
