We recently (yesterday) returned from my cousin's wedding. My daughter and parents went to the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant where my poor daughter (14.5) somehow got gluten from her gluten free meal which wasn't cheap. The waitstaff told my mom it was gluten free but my daughter said that it didn't really seem that they knew what it meant and seemed impatient with her grandma... I saw her after the dinner and she said she felt like it wasn't and then about 2:00 am woke up and she vomited for hours...
My mom told my uncle what happened and everyone felt bad.
Should she have told him?
Should I contact the restaurant to tell them?
We are generally so careful this doesn't really happen too often.
I was at the reception the next night and pretty much pushed the food around my plate. The caterer said it was gluten free but it didn't seem that it could be possible that they avoided x-contamination as there was so much bread... This meal wasn't cheap either - I think it was $200 a plate (yikes!)
Luckily we don't go to many catered events but next time I would really prefer to bring my own food or eat before. Does the host have to pay for the meal still? Should you just arrive after the dinner is done or sit and not eat? It all seems kind of awkward.
Has this happened to anyone else at a wedding?
