About Me

I am an unemployed high school social studies teacher married to a Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer living in Mobile, AL. I also have Type 1 diabetes, which is thought to have been brought on by undiagnosed Celiac Disease. I was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 32 after being sick my whole life and the next year I ended up in the hospital with a blood sugar of 980 despite my move to a gluten-free diet the year before. I am now on an insulin pump. I also have other health issues as a result of not absorbing nutrients properly while growing up. Despite all this, at age 40 I feel better than I have in years and only hope the trend of diagnosing people early instead of telling them it's "all in your head" continues.
