In Topic: Six Flags Fiesta And Seaworld In San Antonio?

04 April 2013 - 06:29 AM

Wow!  I got a message on my work phone from someone who obviously didn't care...Basically Six Flags Fiesta has no gluten-free options, but we would be free to bring in snacks provided we checked in with customer relations.  And, we could keep food in a cooler in the car.  I don't think so!  Sea World, on the other hand, seems to have some gluten-free options, and I'm sure we can find restaurants in San Antonio that will do.  So, Sea World, the Alamo, and the Riverwalk will be on our itinerary.  Six Flags - NOT!  Just glad the call came in while I was gone from work, or the caller would have gotten an earful!

Still, would appreciate any feedback on any particularly good places in San Antonio, if you know of some.

In Topic: Gluten Free In Germany

Grafenwoehr is now a training facility, from what I understand from my son-in-law.  I remember most of the Cold War, the bomb drills and such.  I'm sure it's very different now.  It seems like the Army bends over backwards to help people transition from the US to Germany.

I did not have to eat gluten free when I was in Germany, but your mention of Grafenwoehr brought back a whole host of memories, Mindy, since that was a first-line-of-defense town on the border of east and west in the cold war days  I worked in the psychiatric clinic of a USAH and many's the time a young private would be brought in having cracked under the stress of the tensions back in that time. Sad to say, I still think of all the wonderful breads (and wurst, of course) when I think of Bavaria. I am sure that things in Grafenwoehr are very different now from what they were then :)

Doesn't the Americans With Disabilites Act cover bringing food into restaurants?

In Topic: Co-Worker Cluelessness

08 January 2013 - 01:51 PM

When I started working over 30 years ago, lunch with co-workers was simple. Just order sandwiches, chips and soft drinks. Today, with more diversity in my company, we have to worry about all sorts of diet restrictions. Vegan, Vegetarian, No Pork, No meat, but tuna is OK, No cheese, No eggs...and so on. Then, add no soy, nuts, gluten, dairy, and its no wonder some people zone out. My Celiac Hubby has had to skip potlucks, special lunches, and assorted "treat days" because of his allergy. We try not to make a big deal out of it, and here lately, his co-workers have started to make an effort to include him by buying pre-packaged gluten free foods and going to restraunts that are gluten-friendly. But it did take a little while for that to happen.

That is still no excuse, especially if the people know about your allergies.

Thanks! Sounds very good. Now, I have an excuse to go get a heavy mixer (I only have a hand-held mixer).
