And even precsribe medications for it. To alleviate some of the symptoms without attempting to find the cause


I got the "I'm Basically Stumpted" from this board :)

A lot of docs even try to prescribe anti-depressants for it - I suppose they figure it's related to anxiety.
But to prescribe anti-depressants for your stomach/intestinal tract just seems wrong somehow, you know???

It's a lazy lump diagnosis for doctors who are not willing to get to the bottom what the symptoms are really indicating.

Ugh, caffeine, yeah ... :blink:

Deadly stuff if you are not used to having it anymore.

I mistakenly had some coffee with caffeine a few months ago and I experienced what you did: palpitations, the shakes, it was **awful**!!!

I did drink as much water as I could in order to flush a lot of it out. The next day seemed to be okay.
I don't know if it is able to be flushed out like other things. I would love to hear from some scientific people here. But yeah, I know what you are going through!! It was a very alarming sensation, was it not??

As an interesting aside story, I once had a friend whose cousin was a chemist. In one of the labs he worked at, on his first day, the head of the lab took him around and showed him one bottle with some white powder in it. He cautioned the new guy never to touch the stuff in the jar without two sets of gloves and a face mask - what was it?
Pure caffeine!! Particles small enough to inhale in the air and absorbent through the skin. And possibly very deadly!!

I am wondering that as well.
I am pretty sure that it will probably be gluten-free but it might cause problems for those with soy problems as silk is known for its soy milk and it might be produced on the same lines.

It would be nice to have another brand available rather than just Blue Diamond.
I wonder if this one will have carageenan in it as well.

"Brain fog" ... it's something you know you had when it's no longer there.

It's a feeling of not not being very sharp, feeling kind of fuzzy, and generally tired.
But you know more what is was when it's no longer there.

Hi All:

I found this wonderful recipe for breakfast cereal bars and I wanted to share with people here.
I made them and they are very, very good.
A diabetic coworker of mine called them birdseed bars because I used millet seed instead of millet flake cereal.
I also substituted brown rice syrup for corn syrup which I don't like. But you could use maple syrup too.
The thing I really like about these bars is that they are not very sweet. I made the whitehouse fruit and oar bars recipe that I posted a few month ago and they are far too sweet for me. These are just right for me.

So here is the recipe:

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Grease an 11 x 8 inch shallow baking pan

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter softened
2 tbs light brown sugar (you could use agave too)
2 tbs light corn syrup (I subbed brown rice syrup because I hate corn syrup, you could also use maple syrup, too)
1/2 cup millet flakes (I used millet seeds)
1/4 cup quinoa grain
1/2 cup dried cherries or cranberries (I love dried cranberries because of the tartness of them)
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 sunflower seeds
3 tbs flax seeds
3 tbs sesame seeds
1/4 shredded, unsweetened coconut
2 eggs lightly beaten

Beat together the butter, sugar, and syrup until creamy
Add all the remaining ingredients and beat well until combined
Turn into the pan and level the surface
Bake for 35 minutes until deep golden.
Allow the pan to cool and turn out the bars onto a wooden surface and cut using a serrated knife.

Nutritional values:
Each bar (assuming 16 bars in all) has 156 calories, 3 grams of protein, 16 grams of carbs, 9 grams of fat, 1 gram of fiber, 54 mg of calcium, and 1 mg of iron

I am going to make these again soon.
I hope some of you try these.
If you use the millet seed, they really come out like birdseed bars but what is wrong with that?
And, best of all, they are not that sweet.

Try not to shop at Whole Foods. Their prices are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high.
If you can get to a stop and shop their prices will be a lot better.

Seitan is often used by vegetarians and vegans.
It's like tofu in a way.
It's often called the vegetarian's wheat meat:

I believe that it can be used and added to bread to increase the gluten content of the dough/bread. Ugg, yep poison in a box for us. :blink:


Vital wheat gluten is very often added to whole wheat breads to make it hold together more.
I used to make the most beautiful loaf of honey wheat bread that required wheat gluten order to make it hold together and rise more.

Seitan is also poison in a tub for us too.

Get thee from me, Seitan!!!

In reply to A&Z, I am adding this thread to share and swap Indian cooking recpies.
I will add a recipe for lamb/chicken pasanda when I get home this evening.
It's very good for hot weather as it has a kind of pesto made out of spinach, cilantro and mint leaves.

I think the only way to avoid these ridiculous things is to make our own from scratch whenever possible so we know exactly what's in something. Obviously that has nothing to do with the Tribe Hummus you already bought. :angry:


Hummus is very easy to make. All is takes is a can of chick peas, some tahini, and whatever you want to make it your own like lemon juice or garlic or dill or sun dried tomatoes or anything really. You don't even need a food processor, though it does help :)

You're not coming across as whiny at all!!
We all know what this hell feels like.

It will pass, sooner than later hopefully.
But it sounds to me like taking a gluten challenge is not something you are going to want to do ....
