I was finally diagnosed with celiac disease in November 2008. After 2 years of trying to be gluten free in a house filled with gluten, we finally are gluten free! It is so great to not have to worry about cross contamination all the time!

But aren't trace amounts enough to make some of us sick?
Personally, I know everytime I eat Dry Onion Soup Mix I get sick. It does not surprise me at all that there is barley in it.

The ones we use are made by a company called Ancient Harvest. In a little beige box, about 1/2 the size of the normal cereal boxes, maybe a little smaller. You can usually find them in a cereal section at the health food stores, or in the 'natural' or 'organic' section among cereals, if your normal store has these.

Thank you to everybody who encouraged me to get the gluten out of my house.
My friend came over 2 weeks ago and took all my gluten away. We also got rid of all the containers, pans, spoons, and cutting boards that possibly had gluten hiding in them. She wiped down all my cupboard shelves and cleaned out my drawers. Then I washed all the hot pads and oven mitts.
I can't believe how free I feel!
If anyone is debating whether they can make the switch to being totally gluten free, I say go for it!
Life is too short to be thinking of gluten and cross contamination all the time.

They make quinoa flakes that cook up quite similar to oatmeal.
What are quinoa flakes? We are now a gluten free house and my husband misses oatmeal tremendously. (I react very strongly to even the gluten free oats.) Maybe I'll try to find quinoa flakes for him...and me! Are they any good?
