#742039 I'm Back!

Posted by K8ling on 26 October 2011 - 01:47 PM

Hey guys! I'm so sorry I have been away for a few months, the wifi at my inlaws was spotty at best. Anyway, I had the baby on 9/28/11 and brought all my own gluten-free food to the hospital- they weren't sure how to feed me so they went to PUBLIX and bought an Amys bowl! I was like "Um, I hope you didn't bill my insurance for that..."

Jacob was 9 pounds, 11 oz... amazing what a healthy diet can do for you AND your kiddos! I can't wait to jump back in now that I am home. The husband is still deployed (and may be extended) soooo... I guess I'll just have to cook to keep busy haha

I've been gluten-free for a year and I haven't developed any other problems. Everything has gotten much better for me.

#702705 How Often Do You Cheat?

NEVER and I have had a series of miscarriages we now think were related to Celiac.

She;s being stupid.

#699781 I Feel Like People Are Irritated With Me...

Posted by K8ling on 15 May 2011 - 01:51 PM

I bring all my own food, and tell them ahead of time. I tell them all about the disease and if it is a problem then I eat before I go. I have never had to skip an event because of food before.

I used to worry I was being inconvenient but if it was a peanut allergy people would bend over backwards. So now I just do it, no fuss, and they can deal with it.

#691862 How Do You Keep Your Blood Sugar Up?

Posted by K8ling on 13 April 2011 - 07:48 AM

Holy cow, I am so sorry I have nothing to offer you. Protein is a big thing, I am living on PB now when my sugar gets weird. Apples and grapes are good for me too. I also need to buy stock in string cheese LOL

I hope you start to figure stuff out!!

#685565 What Does Everyone Eat For Breakfast?

Posted by K8ling on 21 March 2011 - 05:04 PM

Now that I am pregnant, I eat a bowl of Udi's cranberry granola, I split an Udi's bagel with butter and strawberry with my son, and I have a cup of coffee. I also have been known to add a string cheese to the equation :)

Before that it was usually yogurt, orange juice, and toast and butter (Udi's toast).

#684576 Now Shes In Denial

Posted by K8ling on 18 March 2011 - 05:41 AM

Maybe it's just me but I was SO HAPPY to start feeling better. Does she LIKE being sick? I mean yeah it's hard but... once you start feeling like a human it is SO MUCH MORE WORTH IT!

Once she feels better it's going to be amazing to her. You just gotta get her to realize that being sick is not life. Being well is life.

#683233 Why Can't She Have It In Moderation?

Posted by K8ling on 14 March 2011 - 02:42 AM

My uncle just died at 45 from colon cancer.... from undiagnosed Celiac.

It is not good. She needs to stop it all the time.

#683092 What's Your Vote?

Posted by K8ling on 13 March 2011 - 02:41 PM

My rule is they can eat whatever they want outside the house, but in the house, the kitchen is my domain and I need to be safe. The kid and my husband had pizza outside today and I ate my lunch inside. Then we washed up lil guys hands and face and brushed his teeth. At school (he's 2.5) they adhere to the same rules.

It has seemed to help me a lot and I am hoping to have continued success with the new baby as well!

#681472 Has Anyone Decided Not To Have Kids Based On Your Celiac Diagnosis?

Posted by K8ling on 08 March 2011 - 10:23 AM

My celiac was actually triggered by pregnancy. I also would say, however, that you shouldn't completely rule out kids just because of this. I am currently pregnant with my second child and I have had a normal pregnancy aside from the horrible morning sickness.

#678408 What Do You Miss?

Posted by K8ling on 25 February 2011 - 02:43 PM

To freely walk into anywhere with my children and freely eat without worry. Bud-light, Paneras sandwiches really bad!! My daughter and I would eat there once or twice a month. Subway, Papa Johns cheese bread. A good bagel. My favorite mexican place and BBQ joint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So true!! Every time I eat out on a gluten-free menu I have to think "Is this really worth it? If I get really sick, can I be admitted to Labor and Delivery tonight for fluids?" I am so tired of worrying. Also... I miss...

BURRITOS~!!!! LOL

#677530 Taco Seasoning?

Posted by K8ling on 22 February 2011 - 04:12 PM

I don't really measure LOL I just kind of do it to taste.... the one that we started using was this:

Then I went rogue and started tweaking. I'm kind of bad about that.

I make my own- mexican chili powder, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a dash of cayenne. Delicious, blows the packages out of the water.

#676842 Infertility?

Posted by K8ling on 20 February 2011 - 09:18 AM

I had no problem getting pregnant with our 2 year old, but I have had secondary infertility including several miscarriages. I find it interesting however that I experienced the infertility after going gluten-free. My OB swears that it has nothing to do with my gluten-free status though.
I would say cross that bridge when you get to it :)
