#769743 Other Allergies And False Tests?

I have been reading if your endomysial antibody test was postive then you almost 100% have celiacs. I guess I am confused why they even biopsy then! When my 11 yr old was biopsied, they also found eosinophilic esophagus which is caused by a food allergy. We had no clue. When tested, she was postive for all beans, all peas, apples, rice, oats, tree nuts, mustard, and pork. (These show no outward reaction!) So in addition to gluten, we have cut all of those out, too! Her biopsy showed "inflamation and ulcers" in the same place as the "simplification of the villi". My question is ....."I have read here that other allergies can cause high TTG level (she was 7)but can food allergies cause positive andomysial antibodies, too. We have a 2nd opinion next week since the doctor told me it was not typical and "in my opinion she has celiacs". Ok, so we will get another one just to make sure. But I have gone gluten free for the past month for her. Not risking it. Anyone know anything about other allergies, too?

The endomysial antibodies are specific ONLY to celiac. She has celiac. They confirm by biopsy because it is at this point the only 'official' way to diagnos it, as well as to survery damage so they have a comparison for later.

I agree with Jess.

I would love it if my sister would have everyone to her house for a holiday! I would happiliy bring my own food and a dish to share. Right now, everyone comes to my house & I have to make everything & make sure the house is sorta of clean. Lucky for me my teenage boys & hub can cook.

Next time I would avoid having so much of a discussion about it. Invite everyone over, tell them you will be making a wonderful dinner. If they ask, say I am making a roast, pie, potatoes (or whatever). Let that be it. If she says "EW! No oil or onions...blah blah" Then just say I will make sure and to accomidate you, I know how difficult it is to eat while avoiding many typical ingredients.

Kill them with kindness and vagueness. If they don't want to eat whatever you have made, that is fine, but they will still be there.

It dawned on me today I am no longer losing CHUNKS of hair everyday like I have for the past 10 years! I also shedded hair like crazy, where my friends always noted how much hair I had on my clothes!

Where I used to pull lose hairs after combing I would get like a 1/2" chunk now I am less than 1/16"!!

Its a huge difference, I may notice a stray hair or two on my shirt during the day...instead of having to go and take off my sweater in the bathroom and de-hair the back of it because there was so much!

Think of it this way, Celiac is an autoimmune disorder, in otherwords when you ingest gluten, your body attacks itself. In doing so it also causes inflamation.

So...no matter how little gluten you are ingesting, and whether you have 'noticeable' side effects you are still causing damage within your body, you are still also causing inflammation...and long term inflammation causes all kinds of problems including cancer.

Really ??? It does sound like you may still be having gluten issues with your acne...??? That shampoo may be causing the Acne issue???

According to my dermatologist my acne is bacteria related. With antibiotics in 2 months I am more than 75% clear now...and no cystic acne.

So I guess I don't at this point see a relation since the antibiotic is clearing it.

Although, I guess I haven't taken it in the last 2 weeks (waiting for my husbands new prescription coverage) and my acne is still clearing.

The shampoo surely isn't making it worse. I have always been careful about not getting anything on my face because I had horrible cystic acne.

Of course this isn't a very good scientific test because I went gluten free more than 4 weeks ago.

I have been gluten free for 3+ weeks....I am feeling fantastic! I am realizing just how bad I felt, I feel so much more awake, no brain fog, no stomach pain!

However 5 days ago I ate gluten, My stomach pain returned for 5 hours. At that time I took Zantac because my Doctor said to because my celiac test was negative. The zantac did nothing. But after the stomach pain left I had Severe Nausea for 3 hours.

Since then I keep having intermittent nausea not severe just annoying.

You think this might be gluten withdrawal? Or the Zantac messed up my stomach?

These are celiac specific, it's the bodies antibody reaction to gluten. Your doctor is correct you should pursue a endoscopy biopsy for celiac.

I agree, you should get your vitamin levels checked. I live in Michigan also, I found in April I had low vitamin D (17) and by July I had it corrected to 55...but she said because we are in Michigan the sun starts to die down in September, so July is one of the peak months for Vitamin D levels, so inorder to maintain my level I was going to have to continue to supplement at the high level year round...

So my point being, your lack of energy...etc coincides with the lower amount of sunlight to make Vitamin D in Michigan. You should definitly go get checked out.

I feel extremely exhausted and have difficulty losing weight when my vitamin D is low.
