About Me
My name is Heather and I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in July 2010. I am a mother to 2 children, one of which is also gluten-intolerant. Darned genetics! My father has celiac disease, my grand-father has Ulcerative Colitis and my sister has Chrone's disease, so I assume genetics has something to do with all of these awful syndromes!
I am learning how to live gluten-free, but I am still frustrated by occasional accidental glutenings. My symptoms of eating gluten include upper abdomen distention, (I look like I'm several months pregnant), extreme pain, and foul smelling gas. The cycle of detoxing from an accidental glutening takes me many hours. The tummy goes down, I expel gas, and eventually the pain subsides. It's a horrible thing to have happen, and I am thrilled to report that I have lowered the number of occurrences from frequent to rare. I will achieved this through education and trial and error.
I am happy to have found this website, as it has been a life saver for me as I go through this diagnosis process alone. The site is great, and the people are even better!
I have 2 great boys, ages 11 and 13. The 11 year old is also a Celiac.
**O, and btw, when opening my account, my screen name came to me as I was sitting watching "Toddlers and Tiara's on TLC." The little girls were getting crowned "Miss this...and Miss that.." I laughed and thought, ha ha...I'm Miss Celiac! LOL!
