Topics I've Started

I'm Pregnant

17 April 2011 - 10:38 PM

so we've been married 6 months, 3 months ago I went off gluten, to see if my iron levels, ME related symptoms and a few other niggles would get sorted out. The first two months were hellish, but this last month I've felt amazing! My iron levels are up and I'm generally pain free.

We have not been trying to fall pregnant, and have been using condoms, and I honestly did not expect my body to be fertile and the celiac, owing to years on the pill (until about 5 months ago), but as things have it, I am pregnant. It was weird how it worked, as my nutrionist had subscribed Adreset (for adrenal fatigue) along with other pills, but the Adreset, said do not take if you are pregnant. And for some reason, I just felt that I shouldn't take it. Three days later, when I still didn't feel like I should take it, I thought I'd better do a pregnancy test, as this feeling is weird and could be nothing. :) Guess it wasn't nothing, but a little something growing in me, that I wanted to protect.

Any advise from other celiac pregnant ladies?

Husband Going Gluten Free In Support Of My Celiac

30 March 2011 - 04:44 AM

I just want to know if anybody is aware of their being any health risks involved with somebody who is not gluten intolerant or who doesn not have celiac, choosing to go gluten free? My husband has in the last year cut down on his wheat, sugar, caffeine and alcohol intake in an attempt to be super healthy before we have a baby, so he's health and nutrition is rather good, but since I've been gluten free, he wants to make things easier for me, and go gluten free as well. Would there be any risks involved with him going gluten free? Would he go through the same withdrawal symptoms and have the same negative affects if he was to eat gluten after being free from it?

Friends & Food

We were invited for supper last night, to a friend who has been very aware of my last 6 week journey with gluten, so I thought she'd be fine with regards to what to cook, as she went dairy and wheat free while breastfeeding her baby. I arrive to see that she's made spaghetti bolognese, a beautiful looking loaf of bread, small green salad and cake for dessert.

Then you just feel silly. Saying sorry I can't eat that. People honestly think it's just a phase, or a picky diet.

Sad & frustrating!

I've never struggled to control my emotions, love people, love being busy and am generally easy going.

But since being gluten free 3 weeks now, I've just been sad. I've had 3 or 4 public tears, well meltdowns actually. :) Just feeling like I can't anymore, emotionally.
My symptoms have subsided since being gluten free, which makes my body happier, but my emotions are really struggling.

I can't think of anything else that it can be, other than maybe tiredness, cause I'm not sleeping that well. Is that normal, to be so emotionally unstable after starting a gluten free diet?

I've never had skin disorders or anything like this in my last 29 years, but since around day three of my Gluten Free diet, I got a red lumpy bumps on my elbow. Not dots, literally raised parts of skin. Every person that I've asked thinks it must be eczema.

It's quite honestly 'freaking me out', as I think it looks ugly, so hoping this has happened to somebody else and you'll tell me that it'll go away. :)
