In Topic: Blood Test Results : Do I Have Celiac?

29 August 2013 - 06:44 PM

So you say you use to, does that mean you are currently (as in when you had the blood word done) eating gluten?  If you were not, the tests may not be accurate.

I was eating the gluten-free oats for about a year before test.  Nothing else though.

(1) From the celiac panel test results only, you do not have Celiac.

(2) when you say..."They did not look for celiac damage during the endoscopy."..did they do a BIOPSY?

(3) because that is the only way to diagnose Celiac, not from just "looking at your stomach"

No biopsy.

It does not look like it from these tests as long as you are currently consuming gluten.  Many people still try a gluten-free diet after testing to see if it's a non-Celiac gluten intolerance.

I am almost certain I have gluten intolerance.

I used to eat oats that had gluten in it and my stomach would bloat.  I switched to gluten free oats of the same brand and I don't get nearly the bloating.

i had to fast before mine, but they were also doing other tests and drawing all the blood at the same time.  no idea if you should eat more gluten or not since you haven't gone gluten free already.  i'm thinking the extra bread was only if you had been gluten free and re-introducing it for testing purposes.  i went gluten free before my celiac testing and my doctor advised (since i was feeling a million times better and that i was so malnourished and underweight) that i did not return to eating gluten or even risk a gluten challenge.

Excellent point about re-introducting for testing purposes.  I imagine a regular diet would have enough gluten.  Although, I might switch breads to a flour based.

In Topic: Are These Blood Tests Sufficient To Diagnose Celiac?

That is the best Celiac panel I've ever seen.

I wished mine was as complete.

And on sale too!

Eat 4 slices of bread for at least 12 weeks.

4 slices?  Wow.  Right now I eat one slice of flourless bread every day.  Not sure I could handle 4.

If I eat a giant slice of cake the night before the blood test, could that give me a more accurate diagnosis?

In Topic: What Age Did Everyone Begin To Have Symptoms?

Which symptoms?

Classic? Never

Gastro? varied until sustained at 32+ must add I had no idea what "normal" bowel movements were

Autoimmune? varied until sustained at 28+

the other several dozen that I had? entire life - pictures as toddler with cracker in hand - crazy bloat

I don't mean to dismiss - just not sure what your question is.

Any symptoms for Celiac.
