#747579 Why Aren't Doctors Up To Speed?

Posted by SarahJimMarcy on 14 November 2011 - 03:09 PM

I've met with an MD/ND here in the Twin Cities, MN, area who I wish I would have seen sooner. He thinks everyone has celiac, to some degree, and he called our local GI doctor franchise "a colonoscopy factory". I appreciate his irreverence! He also recommends the paleo diet. I'm starting to investigate...

#721121 Felt Great, Got Scared

Posted by SarahJimMarcy on 06 August 2011 - 05:23 AM

I had a similar feeling - not related to celiac - but after a tremendously difficult year (almost lost my husband, daughter and Mom; promoted at work with three employee slots to fill, etc), I decided to declare the next year The Year of Fun. As part of that, we went to Disney World. I was sitting outside Italy at Epcot watching a parade. I felt this strange light feeling. Almost bubbly. I started to panic. What is this? Am I getting sick? Oh my gosh! ... Oh...wait... I'm feeling happy. This is happiness. It had been a while and was hard to recognize. But I sure was glad it was back!

I hope you continue to heal and more happiness comes to you.

Udi's is good and Whole Foods makes one that is good as well. You'll find them in the freezer section.

#718408 Marketplace Foods

Posted by SarahJimMarcy on 24 July 2011 - 08:26 AM

Went to a family reunion in Hayward, WI and contacted Marketplace Foods in advance to see what they have. I am from the Twin Cities, and I have to go to three different stores to get what we need. Marketplace Foods had it all in one place! A wonderful store with a huge selection all in one place. Just wanted to share!

#713564 Change In Alexia Frozen Potato And Sweet Potato Products

I contacted them a few weeks ago and they told me the same thing - they were now gluten free, but moving to a cross contamination facility. I told them, on behalf of celiacs everywhere, to please rethink that, but, well, I guess they didn't listen. Stock the freezer before it's too late!

#713136 Coping With Uninformed People

Posted by SarahJimMarcy on 30 June 2011 - 07:13 AM

It's really amazing the lack of understanding. It's my 13-year-old daughter who has celiac. We gave a letter written by the GI clinic to each one of her teachers. Yet, on the last day of school, when they were all having cookies and doughnuts, the teacher insisted that the doughnuts were gluten free and that my daughter could/should have one. Luckily, my daughter is better informed than the teacher.

I like the idea of just downplaying it all, rather than explaining. You can explain, explain and explain and still people will not get it.

We are in the Minneapolis area, too. People are generally nice and we have experienced lack of understanding but not the outright rudeness of someone spitting out food!

Janice - just to give you a little laugh: Even my husband can't get it right. He invented the word "gluctose" which I think means "gluten" but he keeps mixing it up with "glucose". And he's better informed than most!
