In the summer of 2010 I went to the doctor complaining of stomach pain and frequent loose stool. The doctor barely spent any time with me, told me I had an ulcer, and said to take omeprazole. No surprise, the omeprazole did nothing because I did not have an ulcer.
I Googled my symptoms and numerous websites came up saying Celiac disease. My symptoms were stomach pain, headaches, insomnia, depression, seborrheic dermatitis, lethargy, pitting edema in the feet, weight gain due to water retention, and numerous daily loose stools.
As soon as I removed gluten from my diet the symptoms cleared one by one. The stomach pain, headaches and insomnia went away first. The last symptoms to clear were the pitting edema and seborrheic dermatitis. Now that I avoid gluten I have no symptoms and feel better than ever! To insure that there are no more issues with gluten my husband and I do our own cooking. We haven't visited a fast food restaurant in months and I do not miss it!
With a renewed energy level I find my passion for weightlifting is back. It will take months to rebuild what Celiac and missed training sessions took away. Its a journey and one I look forward to taking.
