Awesome Bread Machine!

19 July 2011 - 10:14 AM

I just made my 1st loaf of gluten-free bread this weekend & it was FABULOUS!! :D I found out that my bread machine even has gluten-free recipes in it (added bonus) and it made a nice, large loaf of bread. I love Udi's but it's the smallest bread I've ever seen. I used Bob's Red Mill Homemade Wonderful bread mix & I love the way it turned out. Some of the slices of bread (and the ends) weren't all that pretty so I made bread crumbs out of those to use later. The bread machine I have is West Bend 41300 Hi-Rise model that I got from Bed, Bath & Beyond but there's a pretty good price on Amazon for it HERE. I will be making all my own bread from now on!! Yum yum yum!

Prescription Drugs

12 July 2011 - 07:03 AM

I recently switched a prescription of mine and was concerned about gluten. I'm in my 2nd week of being gluten-free so I realize I'm not 100% yet but I'm doing my best. When I called the manufacturer, the person I spoke to was not very helpful. He gave me a very "legal, we're trying to cover our butts" answer but was never able to tell me if I my medicine is safe to take or not. He said it does not contain any gluten products but when I asked about trace amounts or cross contamination, he said "We cannot guarantee that it didn't come into contact with something that may contain gluten." He also said I should talk to my doctor about it. Umm, if the manufacturer can't tell me the answer, how the heck would my doctor know?!? Does anyone have any advice on this? I asked the pharmacist (who told me I wouldn't die over it so I should be fine) but I'm not totally satisfied with any of those answers. Should I try to call the manufacturer (Bayer) again and talk to someone else? I can't find anything online about it.

Meijer Organic Broth

12 July 2011 - 05:56 AM

Does anyone know if Meijer's Organic vegetable & chicken broths are gluten-free? They look like they should be but I'm still so new at this that I don't trust myself to make a judgment call. There is no phone number on the package to contact Meijer, although I suppose I could try to find one on their website. Just seeing if anyone knew about this or had any experience with it. Still trying to decide what I can save & what needs to be thrown out :(

Confused On What To Do

06 July 2011 - 08:04 AM

Hello,

I'm new here and hoping someone can give me some advice/guidance. I had the blood tests done after a few people suggested my health issues could be celiac or gluten related (not sure which ones, just told my doctor I wanted the bloodwork to test for celiac). My doctor's office told me one blood test was negative and one was inconclusive, but did not give me any numbers or ranges. Because of this, I thought maybe I was on the wrong path thinking celiac. However, after more research and talking to people who have celiac, I have a strong suspicion that it could be causing all my problems. I am an otherwise healthy 23 year old woman and I could never figure out why I felt so awful. My symptoms include:

All gastro isses, alternating between constipation and diarrhea
Abdomnical cramps & stabbing/burning pain, gas, bloating, burping, horrible stomach noises & gurgling
Bruising easily
Constant fatigue
I get canker sores in my mouth often (many at a time)
I have always been very small (thin) and have trouble gaining weight, no matter what I eat or how often I eat
Constant nausea
Aches & pains
Insomnia
Depression & anxiety
Menstrual problems
And just an overall "blah" feeling

My insurance will not pay for the endoscopic biopsy so it would be all out of pocket for me ($1,500). I really don't want to incur that cost right now and I really am not thrilled about the procedure, although if I absolutely need to do it for my health, I would. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I've been told I could try the blood tests again, try gluten-free and see how I feel or do the endoscopy. I'm just not sure where to go with this but I'd like to feel better. I've been having these problems since I was about 15 so it would be great to have a "normal" life with energy, excitement, etc. Any help that anyone could offer would be much appreciated!!
