Casein Withdrawal - When Will It Be Over?!

11 February 2013 - 09:33 AM

Hi all. I recently had a positive IgG test for Casein so am taking this out of my diet - which would make sense as over the last year I had added it back in after coming off gluten and amongst other things I've had weight gain (crazy!), water retention, hot sweats, itching, wind, constipation etc. Now I'm off it the wind, sweating and constipation are resolving pretty quickly but I am itching like mad particularly in the afternoons after a busy day. I've tried liver herbs to help with the detox but they aren't doing much. Also I wondered if anyone knew when the water would start to come off. I have bad swelling in my lower legs by the end of the day and have also been treated for adrenal fatigue (I suppose from having eaten something for some time that my body didn't like). Any tips and stories would be greatly welcome. I know not directly about gluten but I know a lot of you will also have this issue with milk/casein because of the celiac. Thanks!

Egg/soya Reaction

29 October 2012 - 02:55 AM

Hi everyone. Just wanted to find out if it is normal to suddenly start reacting very distinctly to Soya flour and Eggs? I've been gluten free for a year and 4 months and suddenly started to get tingling lips, itchy face and body and water retention from these two foods. Is there a similarity between soya/egg proteins to gluten. Are there any other foods that are similar that I might want to steer clear of?

Also, does adrenal fatigue get worse with these reactions?

Potassium Supplementation

14 July 2012 - 09:35 AM

Wanted to ask what the standard amount of potassium supplementation was for you all daily? I realised I was short a few days ago with a lot of muscle pain, excessive tiredness and strange feelings around my heart and poor water balance. I'm taking a 600mg slow release tablet. What does everyone else take/recommend? Is this a nutrient that we need to keep supplementing?

Also at the moment I am using Fitday to work out my daily nutrients and Potassium is the one lacking as I am on low starch/carbs because of reactions. What exactly is the RDA for potassium?

For Those With Liver Pain, Impaired Sphincter Of Oddi Function

17 May 2012 - 07:55 AM

Been researching this issue a lot more because I couldn't understand how Coeliac disease could have an effect on how a muscle in to the duodenum works. I found it. Basically the compound Cholecystokinin is produced by the small intestine and duodenum which in turn encourages the contraction of the gallbladder and the relaxation of the Sphincter of Oddi. With those who have experienced a lot of liver pain/congestion it might be that the lack of the production of this peptide hormone (because of the damage to the gut) are experiencing a lack of contraction and relaxation, hence the build up of toxic bile in the liver and possibly even one of the causes of all the other 'reactions' that we get - pseudo allergies?

Does anyone know anything else about this mechanism? Is there any supplement out there that can help this situation... by providing part of the chemical pathway for this substance? I am taking Choline Bitartrate at the moment and getting very good gallbladder emptying results but it is still tricky and I need to keep working on it. My acupuncturist relaxed my Sphincter of Oddi the other day but if I'm deficient in the compound because my gut isn't producing it then I suppose the symptoms will all just come back again?!

Choline - Might Be On To Something!

02 May 2012 - 11:45 PM

Does anyone know of any scientific research on Choline deficiency and Celiac disease. Also any connection to the detox pathway of Oestrogen/Salicylates?

Briefly, I've been taking masses of herbs to detox my liver... when Bea (Yolo) on here suggested I might be Salicylate sensitive and by taking herbs have just been going round in a vicious circle. So, I stopped the herbs, and was struggling to find something to take to help my liver/gallbladder. Remembered the Choline Bitartrate I was given by a nutritionist in pregnancy and remembered also that it helped get rid of a lot of my itching. So I took it last night, and this morning and am hoping that perhaps I am deficient and that's why my liver hasn't been working properly.

Does anyone know also if Inositol should be taken with this and in what amounts? Has Choline worked for anyone else with heavy liver/itching/hives/salicylate sensitivity?
