In Topic: Strange Question But I'm Curious...

I am a guy with a huge bloated belly, looks like I am 9 months pregnant. What annoys me is that there is no fat and I actually have a sixpack. Everyone probably assumes I am a heavy drinker.

In Topic: Which Symptoms Healed First?

Hi Irishheart

No I have not had a test done to totally confirm celiac-my doc pooh-poohs the idea. He is very old school, and believes my weight problems and sore muscles, are a result of overeating and lack of exercise. I wish he could see me eat 1500 calories a day and run 20 minutes a day  on my treadmill! He also diagnosed me with adult A.D.D., and has me on welbutrin, but the mental issues have cleared up as well. Honestly, the internet and this forum has been so helpful. Keep up the good work!

In Topic: Anyone's Doctor Know Why You Can Eat As Much Fat As I Want, Have A Norma...

It is my understanding that fat malabsorption is a side effect of celiac, so if its not getting digested its not turning into fat. But, it will cause digestive issues because it hangs around for a long time in your stomach waiting to get broken down. Low fat diets never helped me  lose weight, only low carb. It wasn't until recently I concluded it wasny the carbs it was the gluten in the bread mostly. BTW rice is great-and doesn't cause bloating.

In Topic: 5 Years Gluten Free- Encouragement For The Newbies

07 August 2014 - 03:58 PM

Thanks for the great words of encouragement. After finally realising that gluten was my problem, a month into mostly gluten free I am much better. The big belly has gone down a full belt notch and the joint pains and mental symptoms are gone.   I say mostly gluten free  because unlike  a full blown Celiac, God Bless them,  I don't have to be super observant about what I eat-for me its basicly anything containing flour.

Question: Someone gave me a 'spudnut' the other day-they assured me it was made from potato flour. My bloating and nausea returned in an hour. They later admitted it  was made with wheat flour. How much will this set back my gains?

In Topic: Sleep Study

I have sleep apnea, and have been on a CPAP machine for years. Its great, and the machines and masks are much better and more comfortable than the old days. Is sleep apnea a symptom of gluten intolerance? It will be a while before I can tell if my sleep has improved since I have just gone gluten free, but like most older guys I am a snorer so I will keep using the machine for my wife's sake!
