Rum And Sugar Cane Allergy

Ok, so this isn't directly related to gluten, but I wasn't sure where else to ask (turned up empty on google and at my allergists).

After going gluten-free, I was still feeling sick so I got tested for other allergies and came up positive for a non-life threatening allergy to sugar cane.

Rum is made from sugar cane, so I've been avoiding it, but then I got to thinking...

Wiskey is made from barley, but is distilled so is therefore safe for us to drink.
Beer is not distilled, so it is not safe to drink.

Since rum is distilled shouldn't it be safe for me to put in my rum cake?? :blink:

Hi
I am wondering what you do for protestant communion (I would still like to partake). I am also allergic to eggs, dairy products and sugar.

Are some denominations more understanding than others? I come from a Lutheran background, but am unsure how to handle this...

gluten-free & Soy Free Chocolate Bars And Donuts?

Hi after a considerable amount of trial and error I think I've finally found my secondary sensitivity - soy.

The only thing is all my favorite gluten-free foods seem to contain soy as well :(

The two snack foods I really can't see myself living without are chocolate bars and doughnuts. I know that Dagoba Conacado bars are gluten-free, soy free but I've never been much for chocolate bars that are only chocolate; I'm more of an O Henry girl! lol!

Any suggestions??

Glutened Myself Now What?

Ok, so I've been gluten-free since July 22 last year (my biopsy came back negative but I went gluten-free anyway), but around February I start feeling occasionally glutened for no reason (Wheat is not allowed in my house and I can't afford to eat out or even buy many processed foods). So then I began to think, "The biopsy was negative so maybe it was never gluten to begin with..." And so in the name of science I STUPIDLY glutened myself on June 1st. It was only supposed to be one donut, but once I started I couldn't stop until the symptoms hit 4 days later. So I went back on gluten-free. A week later I was glutened at a restaurant while on vacation. The problem is I am still abnormally overweight (I only weigh this much when I've been glutened, even when I'm eating gluten-free junk foods and not working out!)

Have I done permenent damage to myself?? When will things get back to normal??
