About Me

Celiac hit me hard this year....

I'm 18 years old and a senior in high school; personally I couldn't afford to let Celiac ruin my senior year academically OR socially!

But I've been extremely sick since November 2011... I've been in and out of school a lot this year and during an attack I last only a few hours as a functioning person before I crash.

I was sick for months and the doctors tested me for everything!

Symptoms:

Blisters on face and neck (horribly embarrassing and unattractive)

eczema on ears

lips cracked at corners

SUPER SLOW HEALING -_-

Extreme fatigue

Brain fog

Rapid weight loss, accompanied by serious bloating (in other words i looked fatter around the middle but was becoming skin and bones everywhere else)

Swollen lymph nodes (submental and posterior cervical lymph nodes)

Gas

abdominal pain

constant overall "sick" feeling

weak immune system... if someone in any of my classes was sick, I got sick in two days tops.

Things I did not know could be symptoms, until after i started researching celiac:

discolored tooth enamel since childhood

ADD

unreasonably high tolerance for alcohol... I'm a 5'5" girl weighing 135 lbs... there is no way I should be able to "outdrink" my male classmates... especially since i do not drink very often

so... the tests began:

Mono

chickenpox

EVERY strain of the flu

strep

staph

did a liver panel

blood tests blood tests and.. more blood tests!

....yet there were no results....

I've always been healthy... my hippy parents never allowed junk food in the house so I couldn't imagine why I kept getting sicker and sicker!!!!

So, I decided to keep researching on my own because I refused to live out my senior year as a ZOMBIE!

After researching, I came to understand that my symptoms were too similar with those of a celiac sufferer to deny my obvious next move... The gluten-free Diet (Gluten Free).

Within a couple of weeks ALL my symptoms were gone!!!!

My facial blisters cleared,I began to regain my strength and energy, and my stomach went back to normal!!

Though food contamination still happens, and sucks... (like right now which is why I'm writing this) it gets better :)

Drink coconut mint or coconut green tea, always makes me feel better and settles my tummy :)

All the best,

Kat
