Topics I've Started

Pounding Heart, Red Skin, Numb At Night.

01 June 2012 - 03:13 AM

Hey guys,

I've been down a long road to diagnosis lately. Curious if these few specific symptoms might be related. I frequently wake up in the middle of the night with my heart POUNDING, but last night it pounded all night and still is this morning as I wake up in bed. My skin is flushed red all over and as usual parts of me are numb and tingling.

Sound familiar? Thanks for any thoughts!

At What Age Did You Develop Neuropathy, Joint, Muscle Pain?

31 May 2012 - 01:35 PM

Hey everyone!

I'm curious at what age everyone experienced neuropathy, joint, and or muscle pain. I'm 23 years old and my doctors and I suspect Celiac, however my doctor recently told me these symptoms wouldn't come out until further down the road in undiagnosed Celiac!
Was this true for you? Did you experience these symptoms at a younger age? Did you experience them before or after other symptoms? Any details about these symptoms will help me! Even a description of what it's like for you!

Thanks, and hope everyone is feeling great today :).

Suspected Celiac - Life-Long Unexplained Illness!

28 May 2012 - 02:24 AM

I'm here to share my story!
I'm 23 years old, and I've suffered from an incredible amount of medical issues since infancy - all UNEXPLAINED or chocked up to hyper-sensitivity, being slow-to-heal, or making things up in my head due to anxiety. How silly!
Here's the list:
- bad reaction to milk - given soy formula as a baby - suspected lactose intolerance as an adult but I can really tolerate it most of the time.
- dark eye circles and pale skin
- terrible allergies - indoor and outdoor - developed oral allergy response to a variety of fruits, nuts, suddenly in my teens along with developing animal allergies. CHRONIC post-nasal drip. I am constantly hacking.
- itching, sensitive, rash-prone skin that easily reacts negatively to cosmetics / body products.
- serious psychiatric issues as a teen that exist now as terrible anxiety. I have OCD - treated with behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and meds over the years, but med-free since my teens :)
- always had stomach and digestive issues that manifest as acid-reflux symptoms, and lower symptoms with periods of constipation, diarrhea, and everything in between. My digestive system is just NEVER balanced. I sometimes go through, when I'm stressed, periods of extreme pain and suffering in this area.
- had a few months where my limbs would suddenly ACHE, a red rash would come over them, and I'd be left with small petechiae-like red spots on my arms. I still get these spots but this eventually resolved (similar symptoms happening now, below).
- had a UTI in 2010 that has caused IC-like symptoms ever since. Urologist says I don't have IC, but I've had the symptoms for a long time.
- had unexplained vaginal discomfort and itching for a few years that eventually resolved but never responded to treatment or tested positive as anything,
- suddenly experienced BAD knee pain in January after doing some squats with a personal trainer - had never worked out before in a gym and wanted to do so hoping it would improve my health. Treated as symmetrical knee-sprains (silly, but I have scoliosis and they thought they could explain it with that) for four months with physical therapy, chiro, accu, under an MD's guidance. Suddenly a week and a half ago the pain developed into nerve pain that shoots up and down my thighs, hips, knees, calves, ankles, upper arms, lower arms, elbows, wrists, fingers, toes, with numbness and tingling in my fingers toes and sometimes patchy numbness on my limbs or joints. It's VERY UNCOMFORTABLE and painful!
- positive EMG in my legs (nerve test). Negative / perfect MRI of lumbar spine (they theorized a pinched nerve due to scoliosis).
- very sensitive to all medications - get side-effects with ease.

NOW, I have been to two gastros over the years, and a chiropractor who all suggested Celiac Disease. Many other doctors have suggested an auto-immune disease. I've been tested via blood twice but always negative. I was supposed to get an endoscopy to try to confirm Celiac in September, but my stomach issues temporarily resolved, at least compared to how extreme they had been during that time, and I had a ton of anxiety about it so I never did it. I always suspected that all of these symptoms of mine could be related or explained by one thing, but I never considered that celiac could explain (or be emphasizing) all of it. Now that I've developed these joint and neuropathy issues, I'm feeling pretty confident that it's celiac.
I have an endoscopy scheduled tomorrow morning with the amazing doctor who suspected Celiac in September. I can't wait for some answers, I'm in so much pain and Im suffering!!!
Can anyone relate? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Am I a classic case and I just spent a lifetime not knowing, like many of you?
Thanks for ANY thoughts, reactions, stories! The support means the world. It feels so awful to suffer and be told its all in your head!
