This was written in 2011 on the Livestrong website but raises concerns to me. Does anyone have any more info on this?

Soy, or soya, lecithin is a gluten-free food because it is not made from wheat, rye or barley. While soy lecithin by itself does not contain gluten, additives to lecithin may contain gluten. Consumers must do their own research into ingredients and gluten content, which can sometimes be confusing.

In Topic: Dehydration

Does anyone have problems with dehydration? I literally drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. I do not drink any other liquids except that new mineral water. I drink alcohol one-two nights out of the week. With all that said, I get dehydrated an awful lot. I spent four hours last Saturday at the emergency clinic getting two bags of fluid pumped into me because I was so dehydrated. I don't understand why I could be so dehydrated when I drink so much water.


This forum is wonderful, just when you're feeling weird, you see others are having the same issues! I've been fighting dehydration for years. It makes me very tired and my lips and mouth are always very dry. I hope someone can chime in on the reason.

In Topic: Swollen Hands After Waking Up

Since going gluten free, I started having swollen hands when I wake up. After an hour or so they are better, they are not swollen huge. I use to get this when I had to much salt. I guess you can say they are more sore than swollen. Just curious if anyone else had this.



When I wake up I can't even move my fingers they are so stiff and painful. It takes a few minutes to slowly limber them up. They are mostly pain free for the rest of the day but by the end of the day they are sore again. I've had this for almost a year and it's the same after 6 weeks of gluten-free diet. I have very painful feet as well. I'm looking for answers, too!

In Topic: Kissing And Cross Contamination

This is just my opinion, but if you start carrying around a toothbrush with you to first dates, you'll never have a second date. That seems just a little overboard to me. What are you supposed to do? Hand someone a toothbrush after the meal and be like "hey, just in case you decide to kiss me..." At the same time though, you do have to protect yourself and celiac isn't some sort of deep dark secret you should be hiding. You'll probably end up discussing it at some point early on with the choosing of a restaurant or some such. If a first date has gone well and he is leaning in you can always mention the bread, offer a cheek and ask for a raincheck. Heck, if you find yourself a true sweetie maybe you'll find him eating gluten free for the evening and he can plant one right one you.


Thank you for the support. This is tricky. I'm a mature woman finding myself back out in the dating world so there is a lot to discuss on first dates!

In Topic: Accidental Exposure

That was my first mistake too!
A friend and I went out to "celebrate" my new gluten free diet!
We decided on a chinese buffet!
It was yummy!
And I was sick for a whole week!
And then I read that Soy sauce is actually "wheat sauce" or "gluten-juice. Ugh...oh my god...I feel your pain.
I very quickly started googling everything before I put it in my mouth.
And reading labels.
And soon after that...
Ate at an Arabic restaurant and happily ordered kebabs and rice and NO pita bread. While mindlessly eating my last three bites of rice....I realize there are those little vermicelli things in the rice! Oh no! And there was another week of sickness and horrible migraines. Very shortly I stopped eating out completely because I clearly didn't know enough about this beast called gluten...to know how to avoid him.
Talk about "Scared Straight" !!! :)
That was when I realized that avoiding gluten unsuccessfully was kinda like a playing a contact sport and getting your ass kicked repeatedly.
I started learning then. :)


I'm five weeks into this and I am terrified to eat out! I've been sick for so many years I don't want to take any chances. Do you ever get over this fear? I recently learned that if you kiss someone who just ate gluten that that's cross contamination! My niece found that out the hard way with her boyfriend. She was sick for weeks before they figured it out. I'm single and can't even imagine how I deal with that on new dates. It's embarrassing enough to make the fuss to get a gluten-free meal..... yikes. anyone have advice? Penny
