Looking For A Pen Pal For Daughter

15 October 2008 - 10:22 AM

So my son, thanks to this forum, now has a pen pal his own age in Sweden to trade emails and letters with - which is great!

But my 9 year old daughter is sad now that she doesn't have one (any of you with 2 or more children know exactly what I mean ;) )

I looked on line, but I couldn't find anything that I felt "safe" signing up for. I don't suppose anyone has a suggestion on how I can get her a pen pal, or better yet, has a 9(ish) year old girl that would also like a pen pal?

Thanks for any ideas on this.

Boy Scout Camping

11 October 2008 - 03:10 PM

So I broke down and finally decided that my 11 year old son could go on a weekend Boy Scout camp out without my husband to go with him and watch the potential food problems. He is really good about not eating or even touching anything that we didn't give him. We even went out and bought him a new cooler and stocked it with what he needed for the camp out.

Anyway, long story short, my son just called me because one of the Mom's that went on the trip was yelling at my son to wash and clean up the other boys dishes that were covered with hot dog buns and other horrors. My son told her he couldn't and apparently she told him it wasn't going to hurt him and just do it.

I talked to the woman on the phone as calmly as I could (shaking on the inside with anger) that Lane could end up touching his face or his own food and cross contaminating himself. Not to mention he breaks out everytime he comes in contact with anything. And how smart is it of this person to insist a child touch something that knowingly makes him sick?

So there is my gripe. I'm sorry for that.

Has anyone else had any success with getting through these kinds of things??

Carrabbas Gets A Big Thumbs Up From Me!

14 March 2008 - 02:46 PM

I just wanted to share that we went out on a limb and tried Carrabbas in Virginia Beach. We rarely eat out and it is always kind of scary to go someplace new.

So I went in armed with our pre-printed gluten free menu that had disclaimers on it, but when I got in the door, they had a gluten free menu posted and framed up front. That was a good sign.

Then when I told our waiter we would be ordering from the gluten free menu, he said (without looking dumb) No problem, let me know if you want any gluten free paster, and I'll make sure we have some in the kitchen. Woohoo! My son got to eat spaghetti in a restaurant! He was so happy. And I was prepared to have issues with my dinner because it had grilled scallops and shrimp on it. I asked if they could grill it in foil or something. And the waiter says, "No problem, We do this all the time. Never had a problem."

It was so nice to go somewhere that had a grasp on the concept and we didn't have to pay a fortune to eat!

Good stuff!

14 February 2008 - 06:47 AM

My family and I are getting geared up for the Celiac 5k walk/run in Baltimore on May 4th.

We had a great time last year and got to try and buy lots of great foods - donuts, pizza, french bread... :P

Anyone else planning on going??

I'm Confused About All The Bs

06 February 2008 - 07:24 AM

So I've been reading for a lot time that a lot of us do better with B supplements, but when I went to check them out, I relized there are a ton of different ones. I wasn't sure what to pick and I was afraid of over dosing myself.

Can someone help me out here? B12, Sublingual B, B complex?

Thanks.
