In Topic: For Those With Constipated Kids-How Long To See Improvement?

25 January 2013 - 12:14 PM

DS is 18 months and has been gluten free for 4 months now. He is still constipated. His GI said it wasn't the gluten causing it, but can't tell me what is. He takes 1 tsp of Miralax every morning and has a bm everyday. Lately he has been going 4-5 days with no bm, but his other symptoms have been coming back so I think he's getting cross contaminated at my mom's house. :(

In Topic: Can Celiac Cause Slow Growth In Ebf Baby?

I'm new to this, so I don't know much about celiac yet. I do know that gluten can pass into your breastmilk. My son is on a gluten free diet and because I am breastfeeding I have to be gluten free also. I do think that if your son has celiac disease the gluten in your breastmilk could affect him. My son was always very big but started going down on the charts after starting solids so I don't have experience with that. Just because one of your children has celiac disease doesn't mean the other will so that could explain why his brother is big.

In Topic: White Spots On Teeth

My ds has white spots on his top front teeth near the gumline. He just had his first dental checkup and the dentist said it was enamel defects. Those are the only ones I can clearly see. He is 14 months and really fights me looking in his mouth.

Sorry, I meant coconut yogurt. He gets no dairy at all. He broke out in hives and his throat swelled up the one time he had dairy when he was 7 months old. I have given him prune juice. I give him prunes also. He eats tons of fruit and vegetables. I have given him ground flax seeds, probiotics, every kind of fruit and juice, metameucil. He now takes miralax every other day and we just started giving him lactulose every day. His GI said he does not seem to have any physical cause for not going. He suggested either Celiac disease or that he is nursing too much and not eating enough. He has had a great appetite and nurses a lot less since going gluten free but still is constipated. We have been trying to find a cause for this constipation for months. The other symptoms I never really thought much about until I started reading about Celiacs. I just hope that more time on he diet will help.

Thank you for the fast responses. He does not drink cow's milk. He never has. He had yogurt once and had a bad allergic reaction. He is still breastfed and I have not had any dairy since that reaction when he was around 7 months. He has tested positive for allergies to dairy, eggs, peanuts, strawberries, banana, and yeast. I have tried goat cheese and yogurt but he broke out in hives. Right now he gets coconut milk and yogurt but he does'nt really like it. We eat almost all whole foods. I do give him chex and gluten free rice krispies for snacks.
