In Topic: Am I Celiac Or Is This Just A Severe Gluten Allergy?

24 November 2012 - 10:59 AM

Has anyone had a similar experience?? Do I have coeliac disease or a gluten allergy? Will a colonoscopy or endoscopy show results, even if I'm off gluten?

Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you so much for taking the time to share in my journey.

I can't say for certain that you have celiac's, but just by cutting gluten out of your diet and feeling that much better, I'm willing to bet you have a moderate to severe intolerance of it.

When I had a celiac panel done (bloodwork), I was told not to go off gluten before so that my test wouldn't read back as a false negative. You would probably have to go back to eating gluten for a certain amount of time in order to get a correct reading, unless you do an Enterolab test https://www.enterolab.com/default.aspx

I'm very familiar with those travelling stabbing pains. I find I have them after eating a particularly large meal, but they go away after that meal has...left me.

Good luck!

In Topic: Impatient And Still Frustrated

I wrote early about being in the hospital and finding about my anemia. Has anyone else had such a problem with iron deficiency? I got IV iron when I was in the hospital cause they say I was absorbing it anyway. How long did it take you to start feeling better. I am still so dizzy and tired. I want to go back on the gluten free diet because I have started having tummy troubles again (not sure if its anxiety about possibly having celiac) or because I do have regardless of my negative results and its manifesting again. Very annoyed I can't go on the diet till the EGD which is who knows when

About a year ago I was told by my doctor that I had "enough" iron to be okay and gave me this example: I'm a grocery store for iron and I have enough on the shelves, but none in the back. Weird, I know. My main symptoms were fatigue and always being cold (you can find me in a sweatshirt in the middle of the summer, and I live in the south.) I was also found to have low magnesium. I nipped both of those in the bud by adding in more leafy greens for magnesium and red meat for iron, as well as a magnesium supplement. I don't recommend an iron supplement unless your doctor prescribes it because too much iron can be dangerous. Hope you find the answers you're looking for!

In Topic: Trapped Gas

Before being diagnosed did any of you get trapped intestinal gas all the time?

This has been and still is an issue for me, especially in the morning. Sometimes it'll even wake me up out of a dead sleep, and when I mean dead I mean sleep-through-the-end-of-the-world dead. Mine is almost a burning, cramping sensation that usually resolves itself once I get up and move around a bit.
