#890029 Reactions To Non-Gluten Food

Posted by on 28 September 2013 - 10:16 AM

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. So you think that maybe I am eating cross contaminated produce?
I have eaten soy and milk for over a decade and suddenly they started making my throat swell

Hi Jay-ru, sorry to hear about your intolerances. I also had a few but am gradually adding foods back in now but soy and dairy are out for me too. The dairy is more of an allergy for me with the throat swelling and achy arms. When I take levothyroxine I feel like I'm being choked, presumably due to the lactose but I'm awaiting testing on that. My doctor has put me on levothyroxine syrup so I'm doing much better.

It takes time and patience working out your intolerances so it may be worth keeping a food journal like steph suggested. I thought I had a problem with coffee but it turned out to be the milk so I'm happy I have my coffee back :) . Good luck

#887954 Joint Pain

Posted by on 10 September 2013 - 11:03 AM

Well while you're trying to find out what is causing pain/inflamation to your joints. There's a couple of recipes I use when i have flare ups which maybe worth a try...they're yummy too!

Or.. juice some apples, carrots, half a lemon and about an inch of fresh ginger (or frozen)

Or slice a piece of fresh ginger into hot water and enjoy :)

#881414 Hla Dq2 And Hla Dq8 Test

Posted by on 27 July 2013 - 09:48 AM

Hi Ol_Mauri, I'm in the uk and my gp arranged the general coeliac blood tests for me which tested positive. They then refe red me to a specialist at the hospital to arrange the biopsy but me being me I couldnt tolerate the procedure so they arranged hla typing tests as an extra confirmation that I had the disease.

You need to contact your normal gp first and ask to be referred to a specialist (I doubt your gp will do this test).

Bear in mind that I doubt they will diagnose you purely on positive hla typing results but it will rule you in or out of the possibility of you getting celiac disease.

Do they not automatically test children in Italy they for celiac by the age of 6 years old?
Good luck, helen

Just to add...as far as I'm aware, just because you might test negative on all celiac tests, it doesnt mean you arent classed as 'non celiac gluten sensitivity' so after all testing, maybe you could try eliminating gluten and see how you feel.

#876654 What Is Your Worst Symptom When Glutened?

Posted by on 25 June 2013 - 11:06 PM

Mine is brainfog, can't concentrate properly and forget what I'm supposed to be doing and feel unmotivated. My arms ache and feel heavy like the starting of flu and I suffer with fatigue. I'm pretty sure my eyesight is effected too and goes blurry.

#868462 Thyroid Medication? Levoxyl Discontinued

Posted by on 13 May 2013 - 12:14 PM

I take Eltroxin. If you search on here under "levothyroxine" you'll find a list on here i started compiling. My Eltroxin is also having manufacturing problems but ive spoken to them and they also make the generic version exactly the same under Goldshield and MercuryPharma
The one I can't have is by Activis which for some reason swells in my throat and effects my breathing.

If you manage to find another brand which is gluten free, please add to the list and good luck :)

Edited ..just to say that im in the uk, so i guess, ingredients may be different in the US even if the same company, so as Adalaide says, its always worth double checking with manufacturer and pharmacy.

Eltroxin also do a syrup which is gluten free and lactose free (i usually struggle with lactose but I seem ok with the tablet form as long as its not made by Activis).

Posted by on 20 March 2013 - 03:13 PM

Wolf..yeah I get nausea too..its no fun. At least youre improving now :)

Mw..well I'm not sure what is gluttening me as I'm being careful but then I suppose it takes time to heal and it may all be part if the process. doubt it helps that Ive been making my sons meals.

Ah you remembered about my son being scared of needles..well I bought a biocard test from Boots today but as soon as he realised it was a needle he backed off! So anyway, Ive just this ten mins ago been a horrible mum and while he was sleeping I tested him (he never even jolted his hand haha).. but anyway, the test is negative.

As theres only me and him, I'm going to try him gluten free anyway and see if theres any improvements in us both.
Thanks Mw

#857123 Good Doctors Are Hard To Find...but I've Got One ! :)

Posted by on 05 March 2013 - 02:13 PM

I'm sooo relieved and happy!

After having hospital appointments for over ten years for my Graves disease and a thyroidectomy ...to put it bluntly, Ive come across some arrogant, uncaring, ditsy doctors/consultants and a surgeon.....

My coeliac Doctor/consulant from day one has been understanding, listens, knowledgeable, explains, is on the ball making sure Im having extra blood tests, vitamins, Dexa, diet etc and is a great advocate for trying to get me prescriptions plus hes incredibly honest saying its all about money and says how he has to fight for his patients to get prescriptions etc, and to top it off he's smilely and respectful!

Finally, my faith in Doctors is being restored!
:) :) :)

#847558 No Celiac

Posted by on 08 January 2013 - 09:45 AM

I think I was more scared of getting a negative/borderline diagnosis because theres nothing worse than not knowing for sure, especially with all these false negatives people get which I keep reading about. At least with a dx of celiac or if you've worked out you're a NCGI then you've got something you can deal with.

I'm still new to all this but hope you find out whats causing your symptoms Razzle...may even be worth going gluten free for a while to see if things improve or try an elimination diet (I'm sure you"ll find loads of info on here on how to go about it).
