Johns Hopkins Ped Gi

08 March 2013 - 06:41 PM

Any recommendations? Our lovely (read with a LARGE amount of sarcasm) has decided not to approve my son's referral to his ped GI at Children's. I am trying to talk hubby into using the POS option and paying OOP for the visit, but he's not going for that at the moment. So, our option now is Hopkins (our plan is affiliated with them).

Dr. Carmelo Cuffari is the one that comes to our local provider's office. A quick web search shows that his main interest is IBD. DS needs to be seen again for worsening GERD and I would like him tested for Celiac with my recent dx (which our ped won't do without me being genetically positive and the insurance is fighting with my GI about the genetic test...banging head against wall here). So, I would prefer a doc who is interested in Celiac research, etc. I did find there is ONE person in the department at Hopkins. I am willing to drive to Baltimore (it's about a 1.5 hour drive each way).

We are in the DC/NoVa area. Any suggestions for a ped GI in the area would be appreciated (we have seen Dr. Kerzner at Children's in the past and I LOVE him and his approach).

Enterolab Gene Test

12 February 2013 - 01:21 PM

Has anyone done the genetic testing through Enterolab? My insurance company and I are going round and round and round about the genetic testing that my GI doc ordered. The Enterolab price isn't bad, so I am considering going that route if I can't get anything done with the insurance.

Unhappy Gut

08 February 2013 - 12:17 PM

What else is new, right? ;)

Anyway, for the last week, my tummy has been in a major uproar. I've had a bout with migraines and vomiting, so I've had to take Zofran which tends to constipate me, so I thought it was just that. Took a Senokot which had a little help. Still very bloated and still constipated. Have been dairy lite (mostly dairy free and doing only cultured dairy) and been pushing water.

Any suggestions? I haven't been this bloated since I originally quit gluten! :(

Help With Dough

23 January 2013 - 05:08 PM

I have now tried twice to make dough from gluten-free flour. Both times it has ended up in disaster, being miserably sticky. I have put extra flour on the outside. I tried rolling with the dough between wax paper. I have ended up completely frustrated and about in tears both times. Any tips?

Follow Up Appt After Dx

23 January 2013 - 02:21 PM

I have my follow up appt next Thursday with the GI. I haven't gotten to talk to her since I got the biopsy results (recorded message) and a message from the nurse saying "you have celiac sprue, continue your gluten free diet, but be strict". So, what questions should I ask? I am completely at a loss right now, other than a few. I am going to ask her if I need to be taking any supplements (other than calcium and the magnesium/B2 that the neuro wants me on) and about a bone density test to get a baseline since all the females in my family have osteoporosis.

I want to have a list written out prior to the appt so I don't forget anything. Help!
