Not saying that acne is dermatitis herpetiformis or not..but there are some postings on that board that might be helpful to you. I think your on to something with the gluten free diet helping your skin but I recommend you seeing your doctor to confirm!! I've struggled with horrible skin rashes & acne for years and am finally finding relief on a gluten free diet. But I wish I had gotten diagnosed prior to going off gluten - I see my MD next month - so I'm hopeful my results/improvement will be proof enough but I'm not sure. Good luck to you.

What I've found - I tried every cream, lotion, ointment etc for YEARS..with NO relief-from hypoallergenic to prescription. Many of the products even seemed to exacerbate it. Now, since going gluten free in my diet, my skin is turning around for the better. I can actually use lotions and creams that before gave me now relief. I am glad you, KD, suggested the coconut oil - because I had tried that prior to going gluten free in my diet - because now that I am gluten-free - it is really helping. Like I mentioned before I use calmoseptine also which really helps.

I've been gluten free since Sept 2012 and I did so suspecting my skin rashes, which were horrid, might be related to wheat/gluten. My skin is much better. I had terrible PMS also - and this has pretty much resolved. My PMS would start a week prior to my period - irritability, bloating, and indescribable "pressure" kind of all over that wouldn't go away until I had my period. I had to take an antidepressant to take the edge off with my irritability. Now, I might feel a little irritable a day before I get my period - but nothing major & no other symptoms. My periods are lighter and don't last as long also. I don't need the antidepressant either. I am so relieved to have found the answer to all of my problems! My energy level has improved also.

I've read DH can present in different/varied types of rashes/lesions that is why - considering the stubbornness of my skin issues is why I considered going gluten free. I figured it had to be an internal matter rather than external-hygiene, soaps, lotions, etc and from the relief I'm finding from a gluten free diet I am pretty much convinced its autoimmune related to gluten. The lesions were horribly itchy resulting in a compulsive need to touch, rub, squeeze, and itch. I am having added relief from using calmoseptine cream.
