Finding A Doctor That Specializes

25 March 2013 - 08:07 AM

Hello!

We took our children off of gluten in October 2012. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder and we wanted to try diet changes before medicating her. After taking her off of gluten and dairy a lot of other symptoms that we thought were unrelated started to clear up. Having BM accidents in her pants, bloated belly, ear infections, bladder infections....the list goes on and on. Many of her neurologic symptoms have cleared as well! My son has always had a lot of food allergies and he also does really well on a gluten and dairy free diet.

I was diagnosed last month with Celiac Disease. Now I really want to have my children tested (via endoscopy/biopsy) to get an official diagnoses. I think it will be easier in school and as they get older I'm hoping they will be more likely to stay away from gluten.

My first question is: My children are 6 and 2, are they to young for an endoscopy with biopsy? Is it dangerous when they are that young??

and also: How do I go about finding a Pediatric GI doctor that specializes in Celiac Disease? I live in West Michigan and have access to a lot of hospitals in and around Grand Rapids.

The doctor that diagnosed me really didn't know anything about Celiac, I only got my diagnoses because I requested the testing. I really want someone who knows their stuff when they are dealing with my precious children!!

Thank you in advance!!

Safe Restaurants Near Shedd Aquarium In Chicago

05 March 2013 - 07:43 AM

My family is going to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago over Spring Break. I am wondering if anyone knows of any safe and tasty restaurants that have gluten free options on their menu? It would have to be right near the aquarium because we won't be traveling far from there. My kids are gluten free as well so a place with kid friendly options would be best! Thank you!

Cinnamon Sugar Chex And Rice Milk

04 March 2013 - 01:51 PM

I had a bowl of Cinnamon Sugar Chex with Rice Dream Vanilla rice mile for a snack about 2 hours ago. Now my stomach hurts terribly, I have D and I'm having a hard time staying awake. Has anyone had problems with these things? I bought both of them because I wanted something easy that I didn't have to think much about, being newly diagnosed I tend to get overwhelmed.

I Glutened Myself :(

27 February 2013 - 02:35 PM

I was grocery shopping today and got so hungry that I had the shakes. I'm newly diagnosed so it never even crossed my mind to check the label. I grabbed a protein bar at the store and ate it when I got to the car. I'm so sick and my DH on my scalp is itching like crazy. Does it become second nature to check every label? I can't believe I did that, it didn't even cross my mind at that moment.

Follow Up Care?

24 February 2013 - 04:44 PM

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease about 4 weeks ago. My GI Doctor sent me a letter that my biopsy results came back showing that I have Celiac Disease and that I should begin a strict gluten free diet. Luckily I do a lot of reading so I've read up on how in depth my gluten free diet needs to be. But do I require any follow up care? Should I be seeing a doctor regularly for Celiac Disease? I feel like they gave me this diagnoses via a letter and then sent me off on my own.
