Endo Results Please Advise!

02 July 2013 - 08:52 AM

My daughter's biopsies all came back normal so the GI said they've ruled out celiac, the only blood test that was elevated was TTG-IGG, everything else in the full celiac panel was normal.

Why the high IGG then?  I know this does not rule out gluten intolerance, should I still try her with a gluten free diet?  I hate to make a complete dietary change for a 5 year old if it's not necessary but I guess we won't know about an intolerance until we try.  They also said they'd like to do a gastric emptying study next so we're scheduled for that next week.  Any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Got A Copy Of Blood Work

22 June 2013 - 03:37 AM

I posted in another thread that my daughter's TGG-IGG was the only elevated test that came back, here's her complete report, we're doing an endoscopy on Wednesday because of the one abnormal result.  I still don't know what to think:

Deamidated Gliadin ABS, IGA   2  (range 0-19)

Deamidated Gliadin ABS, IGG   2  (range 0-19)

TTG-IGA      <2  (range 0-3)

TGG-IGG     25  (range 0-5)

Endomysial Antibody IGA   Negative  (range Negative)

Immunoglobulin A Quant, Serum   70 (range 44-189)

Immunoglobuin A  69  (range 48-336)

They ran the TGG-IGG again about 2 months after the first blood test and it was at 22.  She also had a CBC panel run and everything was normal.  Any thoughts on this would really help thanks!

Ttg Igg

Has anyone had only a positive TGG IGG in their celiac panel?  If the TGG IGG is elevated does this mean there is already damage?

What Symptoms Did/does Your Child Have?

10 June 2013 - 10:24 AM

My 5 year old is in the process of being tested for celiac disease.  We are scheduling an endoscopy, hopefully for the end of June.  The only issue she has is chronic abdominal pain, she has been complaining about it for about 5 months on a regular basis. It's hard to figure out what it feels like (nausea, cramps, gas etc) being only 5, she still has a hard time explaining what kind of pain it is.   She is a skinny kid too but has never been off the charts (about 25th% since she was born) and hasn't lost weight recently.  I just don't know what to make of all of this, I always read that constipation and diarrhea are symptoms but she always has had regular bowel movements.  Could this really be celiac?  (also all of he blood work has been normal except for an elevated IGG-TGG level).    Just wondering what everyone else's experience was.

Questions About My 5 Year Old

07 June 2013 - 11:05 AM

My daughter has been complaining of abdominal pain, just about every day, for 5 months.  We have been seeing a GI and all of her blood work has come back normal except for her TTG-IGG which was at 25.  The dr said celiac disease is suspected if it's over 100 but 25 is still elevated.  She is also not IGA deficient.  Other than that all other tests have been fine.  They want to do an endoscopy now since we're still not getting any definitive answers but I don't want to do it unless we've exhausted all other options, just because it seems so invasive, especially for a child..  I guess what I want to know is:

-Can she still have Celiac with just that one antibody being elevated?

-Can she still have visible damage that they would see with an endoscopy with her blood results being what they are?

I'd appreciate any advice thanks!

(her main complaint is the abdominal pain, and she doesn't eat as much at some meals because she says her tummy hurts, other than that, activity levels, growth, stool etc. seems to be normal)
