Topics I've Started

Lactulose

26 June 2014 - 06:43 AM

After being on Restoralax for a year, my son has now been given Lactulose by a doctor to deal with his extreme constipation. (He has been in terrible pain all week and the X-ray showed lots of compacted stool).

Has anyone had experience with this laxative? I am a bit concerned because he is also intolerant to dairy and the med contains lactose. :(

Empress Spices

26 June 2014 - 06:34 AM

I am still looking for the reason for our son's recent episode of symptoms, likely glutening (serious constipation with intense abdominal pain).
Has anyone ever used spices made by EMPRESS? I had an old jar of ground Oregano on our shelf and - without thinking clearly - used it in a dinner last week. The next morning it all started...

Trace Amounts Adding Up Over Time?

21 June 2014 - 04:23 PM

Has anyone experienced tiny amounts of gluten adding up over time ending with a sudden reaction "out of nowhere"?

My son (gluten and many other intolerances) has had an intense reaction after being symptom-free for 6 months. Since there is no obvious source of gluten, I am wondering if he could have ingested gluten in tiny amounts over  a long period of time, for example from "gluten-free" foods (gluten-free Rice Krispies etc.) or from sticking his fingers into his mouth at school.

Is it possible to have a full-blown reaction once the accumulated amount reaches a certain level?

Thanks for any input!

Kelloggs Gluten-Free Rice Krispies & Ener-G Bread

21 June 2014 - 03:56 PM

Has anyone experienced problems eating these?

My son (gluten intolerant) has had 6 months without any symptoms but has had severe abdominal pain and constipation this past week. I am not able to find any major gluten source in his recent food but he has been eating a lot of the gluten-free Rice Krispies and the Ener-G bread these past weeks/months.

I am wondering if it could be trace amounts of gluten adding up over time? Or simply the constipating effect of rice, of course...

Thanks for any comments!

Gluten-Free Rice Krispies

24 March 2014 - 08:12 PM

Has anyone tried Kellogg's gluten-free rice crispies?
The company told me that no other common allergens (incl. sulphites) are in them (I asked about soy, eggs, dairy, corn, and nuts), but I am still wondering if we should take the chance?
