Can We Talk About Bandaids?

25 January 2007 - 09:18 PM

Recently I'm noticing that when I use Bandaids I break out in a VERY itchy rash where the bandaid is. This is something new for me. I had a couple of moles biopsied last week and bandages became a real problem--itchier by the day. I tried Bandaid brand and also Nexcare brand. Does this mean I'm becoming latex sensitive or allergic? Could there be gluten in the glue? Could it be related to celiac? Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mission Work In New Orleans Next Week

23 January 2007 - 10:05 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm leaving Saturday to go "muck out houses" in New Orleans for a week. This means going into houses that haven't been opened since Katrina and taking everything out, including the sheetrock. I'm somewhat nervous about the work we'll be doing, but we'll have respirators, so I'm hoping that will keep me safe in that regard.

What I'm most anxious about is the food situation. One woman who is going says she'll be my "personal chef" on the trip, to solve the cross-contamination issue. I've talked to her about what I can and cannot eat, and about pans, utensils, etc. I'm still worrying some about getting glutened so far from home. I'll also be in a situation where 54 adults will be sleeping in one big room, so you all KNOW what my worries are there

We also have a 15 hour drive each way, in vans, to New Orleans. (Wow, as I type this, I'm beginning to wonder about my sanity in volunteering for this with celiac disease, but I really felt called to do it).

So.....any suggestions on food for travel, "back up" food for meals, or just general words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!!

Glutened By My Husband's Toothbrush?

14 January 2007 - 09:40 AM

I wasn't even sure what catagory to put this under since there isn't one called "stupid ways I've glutened myself." Two nights ago I began with symptoms and didn't sleep at ALL after 3 am. Yesterday was rough, to say the least. I thought it must have been the coffee shop I'd visited Friday night, but I called them yesterday, and we went back over what I had and how it was prepared and it really sounded okay. I still chalked it up to cross contamination until I brushed my teeth last night and had my "aha" moment....

On Friday night after I brushed my teeth I had realized I'd used my husband's toothbrush head on our Sonicare. At the time, I thought "uh-oh" but then forgot about it when I actually began to feel bad.

So, what's your vote? The coffee shop or the toothbrush snafu?

I'm such a moron....

Pei Wei (owned By Pf Changs)

08 January 2007 - 07:32 AM

Pei Wei has just opened a restaurant in our area. According to their website, they are owned by PF Changs, but I think you go through a line and order your food, then sit down and they bring it out. Has anyone tried them? What was your experience?

From the website, it looks like they have the Spicy Chicken dish just like Changs. Oh, Happy Day!! :D
