#888231 Traveling For Business To Seattle/bellevue (Suggestions)--Newly Diagnosed

Posted by Jestgar on 12 September 2013 - 04:42 PM

If you are traveling with someone else, the Crabpotis fun.  You get a pile of steamed seafood, corn and potatoes dumped on your table.  Just ask them to skip the bread that comes with the meal.

#880777 The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel

Posted by Jestgar on 23 July 2013 - 01:23 PM

OK, I'm starting a new blog to journal the sailing stories and I'm calling it "The Other Woman". Whad'ya think?  It's kind of a play on the joke that a woman has to realize that her man's boat will always take the majority of his time and attention.

When I have a few entries I'll post a link on fb.

#873807 Discrimination

Lucky for you guys, science is way ahead of policy in this realm so that we probably will have much easier lives in about 5 years or so. I never once said anyone wasn't involved enough, all I said was that we should confront what isn't right when it happens and if you already do that well then great.

If their policy states "no outside food", then you were wrong, not them.

#873760 Discrimination

Makes me wonder about Celiacs who are homeless.

Diabetics who are homeless

People with thyroid disease who are homeless

People with cancer who are homeless

People with....

It's the 'homeless' part that's bad, and having celiac disease, in my opinion, is a lesser issue when homeless than plenty of other things

People with the flu

People who need meds

People missing limbs

#873733 Discrimination

Not saying I'm owed anything, just want to be treated equal. Maybe you have never experienced discrimination first hand for having an illness, but it does exist and it isn't right and I am not the type of person that will sit down and shut up about it.

So the place didn't have potato chips?  Peanuts?  Whole fruit?  Soda?  Water?  Orange juice?

It's discrimination when you are denied something available to others, not when you're denied what you want.

In our case I think its discrimination. Under the Americans with disabilities act.

http://newsok.com/ok...article/3627995

Only if you're required to be somewhere, or required to eat somewhere.

If you have to go to a business meeting at a restaurant, your boss (not the restaurant) is required to provide you with safe food.

If you choose to go to a restaurant, you're on your own.  In the piece above, the kid did not have to eat there, did not even have to be there, and she brought in food from another restaurant that also has potential for cc.  I say no case.

It's not discrimination if the rules apply to everyone.  If you were told you couldn't bring in your gluten-free food, but could bring in regular food, that would be discrimination.

A restaurant is not required to serve you food, nor are they required to let you bring in your own food.  What if you had cockroaches or other bugs mixed in with your snacks and you contaminated their restaurant?

A carnivore can't demand meat at a vegetarian restaurant, nor can a vegan demand vegetables at a salami shop.

If what they serve doesn't suit you, don't go.

#873491 Seizures And Celiac? I Need To Get Some Thoughts

Posted by Jestgar on 09 June 2013 - 11:35 AM

If you hadn't had a history of seizures it's pretty likely that they would have been forever labeled 'brain fog' by everyone.  It's a pretty weird event, after all -- you just 'disappear' for a few seconds.....

FF, they may not be related, or it may be that the stress of being glutened sets off a seizure and any stress would do the same.

#854319 Ants In Our Bathroom-Need Bug Spray-Help

Posted by Jestgar on 16 February 2013 - 06:46 PM

I can't imagine any reason for there to be gluten in a poison spray - it would be so much easier and cheaper just to make it with chemicals. Do the spray, and if you're worried about either chemicals or gluten, have someone else clean it carefully. If you're really paranoid (as I would be with poison because of my cats) put a pair of slippers jut inside the door to be used only inside that bathroom.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a great year.

#843225 Christmas Family Event. Beyond Frustrated

Posted by Jestgar on 15 December 2012 - 03:43 PM

Me? I would be the b!tch-@ss passive aggressive.

*sweet, understanding smile*

oh, well, I talked to Maria about how to keep your brother from getting sick, and she didn't feel she could, so we agreed that I should make all the meals for our family. Maybe next year we can plan an activity that makes it easier for everyone. *still smiling* *kiss the 13 yo* don't worry honey, I made sure to buy the <brand> potato chips.
