Are all products sold at The Gluten-Free Mall® gluten-free?

Yes, all products sold at The Gluten-Free Mall® are gluten-free according to standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

There is not a consensus between the major support groups in the USA, Canada and Europe as to which grains/ingredients are safe for people with celiac disease, and which are not. The Gluten-Free Mall® has chosen to follow the most broadly accepted gluten-free standards, which are contained in the Codex Alimentarius. Codex Alimentarius is a Geneva-based international organization jointly run by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Its aim is to establish worldwide standards for foods in the broadest sense. Food legislation in many countries, including in the United States, is based on Codex Standards. The Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Program Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses at their twenty first session in Berlin, Germany in September 1998 drafted a revised standard for gluten-free foods. This statement has served at the guideline defining which foods may declared “gluten-free.”

Section 1.1: “This standard applies to foodstuffs and ingredients which have been especially processed or prepared to meet the dietary needs of persons intolerant to gluten".

It goes on in section 2.1 to state that “Gluten-Free” foods are food stuffs so described:

  • a) consisting of or made only from ingredients which do not contain any prolamins from wheat or all Triticum species such as spelt, kamut, or durum, wheat, barley, oats, spelt or their crossbred varieties with a gluten level not exceeding 20 parts per million (ppm): or
  • b) consisting of ingredients from wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt or their crossbred varieties, which have been rendered “gluten-free”; with a gluten level not exceeding 200ppm: or
  • c) any mixture of the two ingredients as in a) and b) with a gluten level not exceeding 200ppm.

In section 3.1 of the report it states:

“For the purpose of this standard ‘gluten-free’ means that the total content of gluten in products defined in 2.1a) shall not exceed 20ppm, that the total content of gluten from wheat, rye, barley, oats or crossbred varieties of these does not exceed 200ppm in these food stuffs or ingredients defined in 2.1b) and c) on a dry matter basis. The prolamin content of liquid food products is in the same way expressed in ppm of the original product."

All products sold at The Gluten-Free Mall® fit into category "a" and are not made from wheat or any gluten containing grains. It is the customers sole responsibility to read and understand the ingredients in each product that they purchase on our site, and to know what is safe for their diets.

Who needs to be on a gluten-free diet?

People who are diagnosed with celiac disease should be on a 100% gluten-free diet. People with wheat allergy, autism or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD, ADHD) may also want to consider a gluten-free diet.

What is celiac disease?

Celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 133 Americans. Symptoms of celiac disease can range from the classic features, such as diarrhea, weight loss, and malnutrition, to latent symptoms such as isolated nutrient deficiencies but no gastrointestinal symptoms. The disease mostly affects people of European (especially Northern European) descent, but recent studies show that it also affects Hispanic, Black and Asian populations as well. Those affected suffer damage to the villi (shortening and villous flattening) in the lamina propria and crypt regions of their intestines when they eat specific food-grain antigens (toxic amino acid sequences) that are found in wheat, rye, and barley. Oats have traditionally been considered to be toxic to celiacs, but recent scientific studies have shown otherwise. More information on celiac disease can be found by visiting Celiac.com.

Q: How will my order be sent to me?

99% of orders ship on the next business day and for food items a UPS tracking number is e-mailed to you at the time of shipment.

Non-Food Items: Ship via your choice of USPS Bulk Mail (takes about 1-3 weeks) or USPS Priority (takes about a week).

Frozen Foods: Frozen orders are shipped out Monday through Wednesday for same-week delivery so that frozen packages will not sit over a weekend. If you place your order between Wednesday and Sunday your order will ship on the following Monday. Depending on where you live, orders placed on Tuesdays may also have to wait until the following Monday to ship. A tracking number will be e-mailed to you on the day your order ships, and it is your responsibility to receive the package on the first delivery attempt. Non-frozen items cannot be shipped with frozen ones. 5 Units fill a cooler--which we highly recommend for the best product to shipping cost ratio. Frozen items cannot be shipped outside the USA, or to Hawaii or Alaska.

International (Non-USA) Orders: All items entering a foreign country are subject to customs inspection and assessment of duties, taxes, and fees, and your govenment may collect such fees from you upon delivery--should you refuse to pay these fees you will not get your order but will still have to pay for it--we will not process a refund if you refuse delivery of your package.

Q: How long will it take to receive my order?

Foods Ordered Within the USA (sent via UPS method you choose): Items will arrive within 2 to 10 business days, and this will depend greatly where you live, and on the shipping method you choose during the checkout process. A tracking number will be emailed to you when your order ships. You can also log into our site to track your order.

Frozen Foods: Frozen orders are shipped out Monday through Wednesday for same-week delivery so that frozen packages will not sit over a weekend. Q: Do I need to register to shop?

In most cases you do not need to Create An Account to check out. If you do Create An Account you will be able to log in and track your order, view past order, re-order past orders, and much more--which is why we advise you to Create An Account. For your security our site will not store your credit card information. Some of our products do require you to Create An Account for example to purchase or use a Gift Voucher you must do so.

Q: Does The Gluten-Free Mall® ship internationally?

Yes - Your order will ship on the THURSDAY following the date of your order, regardless of the USPS shipping method you selected. All items entering a foreign country are subject to customs inspection and assessment of duties, taxes, and fees, and your govenment may collect such fees from you upon delivery--should you refuse to pay these fees you will not get your order but will still have to pay for it--we will not process a refund if you refuse delivery of your package.

Q: How do I return a product?

For the safety of all Gluten-Free Mall® customers we do not re-sell returned food items, regardless of their condition, therefore all sales at The Gluten-Free Mall® are final.

The Gluten-Free Mall® only accepts pre-authorized returns for the following reasons:

  1. The item was damaged during shipment;
  2. The item's expiration date lapsed by the time it was received;
  3. The item has spoiled or is otherwise defective.

Ingredients for all foods sold at The Gluten-Free Mall® are posted on each product's page, and it is a customer's responsibility to read and understand them, and to select only those items that are safe for their specific diet. The gluten-free status and any other claim regarding the ingredients of any product sold at The Gluten-Free Mall® are made solely by the manufacturer.

How do I access my product download/software?

After purchasing a downloadable product simply log back into our site and you will be in your "My Account" area. Click on the "My Downloads and Newsletters" link. Customers who order our "1 Time Downloads" will have 7 days to download their product, while those who subscribe for a year will have 365 days of 24/7 access to their subscriptions.
