Before I was diagnosed with Celicac Sprue, I was a a voracious reader of cookbooks, a foodie, but one where oraganic produce/products were important, as well as the nutritional value of a meal.
Knowing that when you look to comfort foods, you typically find high-fat, high carb/sugar contents, I wasn't surprised to find that most of the recipes in this book fit those demographics.
With that being said, the recipes are good, especially the breads. I have tried a large sampling of the recipes, and added my own touches, ex. with the macaroni and cheese, adding equal amounts of colby jack and sharp cheddar, some nutmeg, dry mustard, and cayenne to a bechemel sauce then adding the GF macaroni to it. Delicious! Don't be afraid to experiment with herbs and vegetables in these dishes, they are well worth trying.
And definitely look to the bread recipes, they are wonderful.
