General Mills Pulls Plug on Gluten-free Chex Oatmeal

Very upset they are discontinuing this. My granddaughter and I loved the Chex Gluten free Oatmeal! It was a great and easy oatmeal to have. It was good and great price for families when gluten-free items are usually so expensive. So mad at this!

I, too, had a reaction to the gluten-free oatmeal. I so wanted it to be OK, because I love and really miss oatmeal, but when my eyelids got bright red and itchy after eating it, it tells me it's not strictly gluten-free, but must be cross-contaminated or something. Would have bought lots more of it.

I could never find the Cherrios anywhere , or the oatmeal...very disappointed.

I am deeply disappointed to learn that the Chex gluten-free oatmeal is being discontinued. From the very beginning I have been eating it daily. It tasted good, was easy to prepare, and it had fiber. I also felt that it filled me up so I therefore avoided snacking. I wish they would reconsider. As stated above, it was not marketed or readily available on the same shelves all the time. I think the problems could be easily solved if there was a sincere effort.

I read this with interest after my experience with Chex gluten-free Oatmeal. I was diagnosed celiac and have been gluten free for over three years. I did have a problem with regular oatmeal before going gluten free, but after going gluten-free ate Pamela's Wherever bars with no problem. So I eagerly tried the Chex gluten-free Oatmeal when it was introduced. I only ate 2/3 of a package then decided maybe I should wait to see before consuming a whole package. That night I woke very 'glutened' and it lasted for three days. I have often wondered if others had a problem with it. I eat regular Chex every day and would be lost without that, so my issue is specifically with the oatmeal.

They never really advertised the product which set it up to fail. They constantly advertise their cold cereal.

This is another disappointment! Once again I find something that my celiac husband can enjoy and now it's to be discontinued.

I love Chess gluten free oatmeal, it's the only oatmeal I like I'm sad to see this go when this first came out I was very happy I found a great gluten free breakfast that doesn't hurt my tummy I'm sad now.

I agree! Wish they would change their minds and keep it on the shelves!!

I eat oatmeal everyday and have been getting the Chex Oatmeal ever since I stumbled across it at the grocery store. I will surely miss it and hope they will not pull the plug. Put it in the gluten free section and you will see it fly off the shelf. I always buy 3 boxes at a time so I don't run out -I even put it in my smoothies. If it was advertised people would know about it and they wouldn't have to take it off the market.

I am really upset by this decision. I agree that there was poor marketing and product placement of the gluten-free oats. I really had to hunt for it in my grocery store after seeing a coupon for it that even let me know it existed in the first place. It was not in the gluten-free section, but on the BOTTOM SHELF tucked away in the corner of one of the aisles. It might have been near the other oatmeal, but I am not sure. In any case, it seems to keep moving locations in the store and it is like a scavenger hunt to find it.

Also they should have offered an old-fashioned version in addition to the quick version. That might have had more sales. I know speaking for myself I only buy old-fashioned when there is a choice and only bought the General MIlls gluten-free quick oats because there was no other option.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be stocking up on this now that I know it's being discontinued. After that, it's back to special ordering other brands from health-food/vitamin supplement online retailers. What a huge inconvenience!

General Mills used molasses as a sweetener. I have to be gluten-free, dairy-free, and molasses was listed on the dairy-free dietitian handout given to me at the hospital clinic...due I guess to a similar sugar. Hard to find further info, but? I stopped buying Chex gluten-free because of this.

I am sad that this is going off the market, but I agree with most of the responders, my stores only carried the plain and every now and then maple and brown sugar...the majority of the time it was sold out, even though it was hard to find, people found it, Chex should try marketing it, maybe this is their way of giving us a wake up call, maybe so many people will buy it that they will keep it on the market...I am celiac and never had a problem with a Chex product.
