    Girl Scouts Debut New Gluten-Free Cookie for 2019

      Girl Scouts of America has a new gluten-free cookie and it's on sale near you.

    Celiac.com 01/15/2019 - The annual Girl Scout cookie season is kicking off for 2019 with some fresh new cookies, including the gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chip. The Scouts’ newest treat is flavored with semi-sweet chocolate chips, caramel and a hint of sea salt. 

    The gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie is the first new Girl Scout cookie since their popular S’mores was introduced in 2016, and the first new gluten-free cookie since the Girl Scouts first introduced gluten-free cookies nationally in 2015. Each Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie has just under 60 calories, 4 grams of sugar and just under 3 grams of fat. Other traditional Girl Scout favorites include Thin Mints, Do-si-dos, Samoas and Trefoils.

    The Girl Scouts have two other gluten-free offerings: Toffee-tastic, a buttery cookie with sweet and crunchy golden toffee bits, and Trios, a peanut butter oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips.

    The Girl Scout Cookie Program is committed to promoting entrepreneurial and business skills in girls. According to a statement by Girl Scouts of the USA CEO Sylvia Acevedo “…all Girl Scout Cookie proceeds stay local to power year-round troop projects and activities, when you buy Girl Scout Cookies, you are making an investment in girls and in your local community."

    I tried the Toffee-tastic when it was the first gluten-free cookie. Sorry, but I found it disgusting. I will consider trying one of the other two since I have a little friend selling them.

    Do the gluten-free cookies contain yeast, yeast extract, dairy or egg?

    These are gluten cross-reactors.

    Many in the non-celiac community are searching for gluten-free products in order to sustain good health.

    That's because a select group of Girl Scout councils nationwide will be slinging the organization's very first gluten-free offering as part of the 2013-14 Cookie Sale.
    The new cookie, called the Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread cookie, is made with real chocolate chips and real butter, and contains no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, no high fructose corn syrup, no palm oil, and no hydrogenated oils.
    The gluten-free cookies will be sold in a 5 ounce resealable foil pouch, with 12 pouches per case.

    Girl Scouts Announce Return of Gluten-Free Cookies For 2016
    Celiac.com 02/17/2016 - Gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies are much loved by many with celiac disease or gluten-sensitivities. That's why it will be taken as great news for lovers of Girl Scout Cookies, and things gluten-free, to hear that Girl Scouts of the USA has announced the return of gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies for the 2016 cookie season.
    Two returning popular gluten-free favorites include Toffee-tastic, the buttery cookie with toffee bits, and Trios, made with real peanut butter, chocolate chips, and whole grain oats.
    These tasty treats made history in 2015 as the organization's first-ever nationwide offering of gluten-free options. They, along with other delicious favorites like Thin Mints and Samoas/Caramel deLites, will be available nationwide from most Girl Scout councils.
    Unfortunately, not all varieties will be available in every market, so check with your local Girl Scout council to find out which the cookies will be sold in your area. Also, check out Google or Apple to download the mobile Girl Scout Cookie finder app for your Android or iPhone.

    Celiac.com 04/05/2016 - Girl Scouts USA Recently debuted "Trios," a gluten-free cookie now available at select Girl Scout Cookie booth locations. Gluten-free Trios are made with real peanut butter, chocolate chips and whole grain oats, and are going for $5 a package.
    That's not bad for gluten-free cookie, as the other eight varieties are $4 a package and include: Thin Mint, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Caramel deLites, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-A-Lot, and Cranberry Citrus Crisps.
    All Girl Scout cookies are preservative-free, kosher, with zero trans fat per ser serving. The Girl Scouts have a mobile app to help supporters find their local Girl Scout Cookie Booth sales, by zip code or GPS.
    Download the official Cookie Finder app to your Android or iPhone, or visit girlscoutcookies.org to find booth sale locations.
    Not all booths will carry the Trios cookie, however, as it's available in limited quantities, so be sure to check with your local scouts to see if they are available near you.

    Gluten-free Wasteland Girl Scout Crushes Cookie Sales
    Celiac.com 03/28/2017 - A savvy Girl Scout from New Jersey is close to selling more cookies than anyone in history thanks to her brutal reviews of the sweet treats that have gone viral.
    Employing brutally honest cookie reviews, skilled networking and aggressive sales tactics, 11-year-old Charlotte McCourt set a new Girl Scout cookie-selling world record by selling 21,477 boxes of cookies, shattering the 35 year old previous record.
    Originally, Charlotte was aiming to sell at least 300 boxes. As part of her effort, McCourt rated all of her cookies on a scale from 1 to 10, and included frankly worded reviews. She then emailed the rankings and reviews of her offerings to her dad's "rich" friend in hopes of swaying him to purchase a bulk of her 300-box goal.
    For example, Charlotte rated the gluten-free Toffee-tastic cookies a , calling them a "bleak, flavorless gluten-free wasteland." She also slammed Do-si-dos as "unoriginal."
    She did praise Samoas, the crisp cookie with shredded coconut, caramel and chocolate, rating them a 9.
    The wealthy pal, who was revealed Wednesday to be Colorado-based venture capitalist Jason Mendelson, was blown away when he received the sales pitch from McCourt.
    Mendelson, childhood friends with McCourt's father, Sean, was sold on her pitch, immediately buying 25 boxes and donating them all to the military.
    "As I'm reading her plea, all I can think is, 'My God, I'm a venture capitalist. I get pitched 30 to 40 times a day. This is an 11-year-old telling me exactly what she wants. There's no beating around the bush,'" he told The Post. "It is a master class on sales," he added.
    Later, Sean's boss, TV personality Mike Rowe, shared the email with his Facebook followers, reading it and cracking up at the gutsy critique. Rowe's video, called "Truth In Advertising!" was uploaded Jan. 25 and has received over 8.4 million views, and triggered thousands of cookie orders for McCourt.

    Did your doctor test you for celiac disease before advising a gluten free diet?  Celiac disease can be asymptomatic and it is commonly linked to Hashimoto’s and/or Type 1 Diabetes (same genes — just a “heads up”).  If clear of celiac disease the diet might be helpful, or consider the autoimmune Paleo diet which is also gluten free.  Scripps in San Diego did a study on Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis patients.  Small study but they achieved a 78% remission.  They are now testing Hashimoto’s patients. The gluten-free diet did eliminate my nodules and enlarged thyroid, but I still must take thyroid hormone replacement (have had Hashimoto’s for 20 years).  Not sure if it was the diet or because I treated my celiac disease.  Calm down one autoimmune disorder and the others calm down.  That is one of my theories.  Be on the look out for autoimmune gastritis as it is also linked to Hashimoto’s and I have that too.   So, please consider going back on gluten, get tested and then treat your Hashimoto’s with a diet.
