Celiac.com 11/21/2018 - True Food Kitchen is a restaurant chain co-founded by holistic health guru Dr. Andrew Weil, centered around his Anti-Inflammatory Diet, which is a pyramid of how people should eat to "avoid and counteract chronic inflammation,” as described on his website. Gluten-free food figures prominently in the menu.

In addition to lending her high profile and celebrity as a minority investor, the restaurant group announced that Winfrey will also add her business sense by serving as a True Food Kitchen board member. The financial details of the investment were not revealed.

The addition of one of the world's most influential female entrepreneurs to their leadership team is just one of a number of expansion-minded changes for Phoenix-based True Food Kitchen.  Over the next three years, says CEO Christine Barone, the company plans to double the number of restaurants; from 23 to 40 by the end of 2021.

Still, Oprah’s involvement was not a product of design, but a product of chance. According to Barone, it was Oprah, herself, who drove the idea to invest in True Food Kitchen. The company did not seek her out. Rather, “she invited me to lunch at her home," Barone says. The two discussed organic gardening and True Food Kitchen's motto that "we really want to be part of that life well lived," she explained.

According to Barone, Oprah’s passions dovetail nicely “with what our passions are, as a brand.” Winfrey is quoted in a company statement, saying she was "so impressed with the team's passion for healthy eating and, of course, the delicious food, that I knew I wanted to be part of the company's future."

Keep an eye out as True Food Kitchen looks to break out into the culinary mainstream over the next few years.

That's awesome! It's one of my dreams to open a celiac friendly restaurant one day, I'm currently writing a celiac friendly recipe book and hope to publish it once it's done. :)

Celiac.com 05/16/2014 - More than half of U.S. chain restaurants plan to expand their gluten-free menus in the next year, according to a national menu price survey by restaurant supply-chain co-op SpenDifference.
"Operators recognize that a growing number of customers have health-related dietary restrictions, and they are revamping their menus to include choices for them, as well as for those who simply want more healthful choices,” said SpenDifference president and CEO Maryanne Rose.
Currently, 55 percent of restaurants surveyed serve gluten-free menu items. According to the new survey, the majority of those businesses will be expanding that selection in the coming year.
The survey supports projections that indicate that the demand for gluten-free menu items “will be with us ...

Celiac.com 07/24/2014 - People that have celiac disease know one of the main concerns is avoiding gluten when they have meals. Their second biggest concern is the possible co-mingling of ingredients that can contaminate otherwise gluten-free food! So how do you eat at restaurants when you have celiac and still have peace of mind?
    Here is how:
Before you are to go out to a restaurant call ahead and ask for the manager, find out if they do offer gluten-free meals that are carefully prepared for people with food allergy (If you are unable to call ahead go online and look the restaurant up to see if they offer a gluten-free menu or gluten-free meal selections, if need be email them). Also ask if the restaurant prepares gluten-free meals in a separate area, and if the restaurant...

Celiac.com 02/05/2016 - Oprah Winfrey may have just officially pardoned gluten, and her "glorious revelation that bread is okay" is causing a big stir.
When Oprah Winfrey speaks, people listen. That's why it was a big deal a while back when Oprah started a book club: People bought the books she featured. Lots of people.
That's why it's such a big deal when the famous television producer and talk show diva sings the praises of gluten in a recent Tweet about the virtues of bread. According to Winfrey, who Tweeted an ad for Weight Watchers, she eats bread every day, but still managed to lose weight. Moreover, she doesn't just eat bread and lose weight, she loves bread. She heaps high praise upon it. Oprah's Tweet contains a video that reiterates her deep love of bread.

Celiac.com 09/26/2017 - If you've ever eaten any of the gluten-free foods made by Amy's, then you know their commitment to taste, quality, and solid gluten-free options. Bolstered by their success in the commercial grocery markets, Amy's is moving into fast food. Not just fast food, drive-through fast food.
Amy's Drive Thru opened its first location in Rohnert Park, California back in 2015, where it was quickly embraced as a healthier, more ethical alternative to other fast food chains.

All Amy's food is 100% vegetarian and organic, with a menu ranging from burgers and burritos to pizza and mac-n-cheese, and, of course, plenty of gluten-free and vegan...
