    Really Good, Really Easy Applesauce (Gluten-Free)

    If you want a tasty, healthy treat that's cheap, super simple to make and delivers big flavor, try this recipe for homemade applesauce. It's one of those dishes that kids can help you make, and which will leave smiles all around.

    • 4 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
    • ¾ cup water
    • ¼ cup white sugar
    • ½-¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, to taste

    Directions:
    In a saucepan, combine apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon.

    Cover, and cook over medium heat until apples are soft, about 15 to 20 minutes.

    Allow to cool, then put them in a blender and blend until smooth. If you don't have a blender, then you can mash them with a fork or potato masher.

    Serve alone, or over ice cream or frozen yogurt.

    I've been making applesauce for 50 years with NO sugar, and a hint cinnamon, and everyone who has ever tasted it says it's terrific!

    Unless the apples are really sour, not many are, you don't need to add sugar to make apple sauce, though you could add raisins for sweetening, but this is supposed to be some sort of healthy snack not chock full of sugar!

    I agree heartily with your comments, cinnamon is lovely with apples... yum, but no sugar added!

    I'm glad to see a gluten-free recipe that's not afraid of sugar! I for one think there's nothing wrong with a little (stress "Little") sugar now and then, if you're not diabetic or allergic!
