Will It Still Come Up Positive?

I had my first set of test done today, however I haven't eaten gluten for 2 months now. My doctor said it would be okay, considering I am still mildly sick. Would it still come up on the test? They said if it came back negative that I would have to eat gluten and then get the biopsy..but I know if I eat gluten I will be sick for awhile afterwards, which usually ends up equaling me missing work and school. I guess I'm just stressing out about it and was hoping for some clarity. What do you guys think?

the blood tests will come back positive even if you aren't eating gluten. the endoscopy is a different story though. i had been gluten free for about 2 weeks before mine and mr Dr. didn't have me eat any before because i was still sick and reacted so bad to the gluten . i am not sure what your Dr. will do, but if you have been gluten free for 2 months and still sick there might be something else going on down there, which is the way that i am feeling. we seem to have some to the same issues,. i am going back to my primary Dr. to see what else is going on with me tomorrow and will most likely be switching my Gastro Dr. i don't think he is listening to anything that i am telling him about how i feel he just keeps blaming it on things that i eat. oh well, i hope this helped. and good luck!

Yeah that was the case with me. He said that there was a slight chance that it would come back negative, but we both agreed on me not eating gluten the first test, because it makes me very ill. By being gluten free for 2 months I meant that I quit-ish, although I had some traces twice by accident, which can leave me sick for two weeks at the most. Usually around the 2nd week most of my symptoms are gone, besides the bloating and stomach pain..and that's how I was when I got my blood test. So I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Its upsetting and frustrating when doctors don't understand what your going through, or how to help, especially when no matter what you do, your still sick..so in that case I hope everything goes well with your Gastro Dr and you guys figure things out.

Thanks -Sarah
