12 Year Old Son With Celiac

My 12 year old son was diagnosed with Celiac three months ago. He went to Children's Hospital for the bloodwork, biopsy, and nutritionist. He is very lucky. He doesn't suffer from stomach pain or anything that causes him any discomfort. Although, it is possible that he just doesn't know what it is like to feel healthy. We don't know yet. His biggest symptom is that he is not growing or getting the proper nutrition from his food. Three months ago, he was 53 pounds. now he is almost 10 pounds heavier. As a family, our entire household has decided to eat gluten-free. So far -so good. But, we would love it if someone could recommend a bread - store bought, ordered online, or baked that doesn't make you want to gag. We love the gluten-free desserts...brownies and cakes, but haven't had any luck with any kind of bread.

Don't know of any bread myself yet, we are thinking of learning to make our own.
I was shocked to find out that I had celiac disease because I was only having left side pain really bad for the past 6 months not stomach pain but my family thinks that I am so use to how I feel that I dont know the difference and I will once I get better.
Good luck with the bread.

Yeah...we've tred to make our own bread too and we must be really bad at it! My son is doing great, but my husband and I are missing garlic bread... I hope that you get better soon. I have seen an incredible difference in my son already. He used to have dark circles under his eyes and they are gone now. His energy level is through the roof too.

I was just reading a previous post about someone hating the gluten free bread and they suggested this bakery you can order online. I haven't tried it but was reassured when I read its a designated gluten-free facility as I worry about buying gluten-free products that may be cross contaminated if made in a facility that uses wheat. I have a solution!!! I am sixteen and found out a year ago around Christmas time that i had celiac disease. Since going on my diet i have been feeling a lot better. I used to have the same symptyms your son had. Not the real noticeable ones- things like being tired all the time, dark circles under my eyes (they still haven't gone away!), being really skinny (I had a delay in my growth), and eating a ton and not gaining an ounce. I have experimented with a lot of breads (and a lot of gluten free baked goods for that matter) and have wanted to throw it all up they tasted so bad. But, fortunately, my aunt (who has celiac's) showed me this brand called kinnikinnick. Their bread and bun mix makes excelent breads for sandwiches and things like that. I absolutely love it!

We found out about a year ago that my 9 year old son, my 10 year old daughter and myself all have celiac disease. None of us had any symptoms except for my 2 kids were not growing. I have 4 kids and my other 2 don't have it. I have tried to find a bread that everyone can eat and have tried almost every brand out there. These are my kids favorite...Udi's (tastes almost like normal bread and doesn't have to be toasted-this one is great for school lunches and doesn't come frozen just refridgerated). The other brand even my non celiac kids like is Against the Grain gourmet. Thier bagels are so good! Also, if you're looking for some great little cheese rolls to serve with dinner Sweet Oven & Company makes some great ones. Everyone in our family loves these.

I agree with you, we love Kinnikinnick. We get the bread, pizza crusts, muffins, donuts and Celiac flour there. It's great!

Hi, I would recommend co-op bread. They have a small gluten free section but have some bread in it. The brown ones are not nice whereas they have a white one which is the best gluten-free bread ive tasted.
