Gluten-Free Fast Food

You deserve a break today! You just might not be getting it at a fast food restaurant. Most fast food places are very slow in getting the gluten-free picture, while some are slowly coming around. Following is a list of some fast food joints and their allergen info. Feel free to contact the individual restaurants for more info, and to bug them about providing gluten free items.

Arby’s:

Arby’s is great about packaging the roast beef in a plastic container, rather than placing it on a bun. The curly fries have gluten, but the potato cakes seem to be gluten-free.

Burger King:
Very few gluten-free items.

Carls Jr.:

There are a couple of things here:
The Six Dollar Lo Carb Burger
Regular & Chili Fries

In-N-Out:
Very gluten-free friendly… you can get any burger "Protein Style" or wrapped in lettuce instead of serving it on a bun. Protein Style is listed in their "Secret Menu" Also their French fries are made fresh from potatoes that were washed, peeled and cooked minutes before they are served to you.

Jack in the Box:

Not much here.

KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken):

Not a whole lot here, either, although a few sides a gluten-free.

McDonald's:

There is very little there that is gluten-free—even their fries and hash browns contain wheat! The salads seem safe, just watch out for the dressings. Most of the ice cream products look safe, too. Always check before you dine, though.

Sonic:

There are quite a few choices on this menu, like fries and tots; just order your burger bunless.

Subway:

All of their hamburgers can be ordered bunless. They serve croutons packaged on the side of their salads, so you don’t have to pick them out. The baked potatoes and chili are gluten free.

Your daughter may not show physical signs on the outside, but as a fellow celiac... IT MATTERS SO MUCH CROSS CONTAMINATION IS REAL AND YOUR DAUGHTERS INTESTINES ARE PROBABLY PAYING FOR YOUR IRRESPONSIBLE ACTIONS! I feel sorry for your daughter having such an uneducated mother!

I HIGHLY recommend Culver's. They have an Udi's gluten free bun that is packaged and steamed, brought to you so you assemble it yourself. They also ask if you're allergic and if you say you are they'll yell it to the kitchen to make sure everything is separate and clean gloves are used (it is printed in bold red letters on the order and your receipt to insure they follow protocol.) Fries are in shared baskets, but the coleslaw and salad are gluten free and amazing. PLUS they have several frozen Custard flavors gluten free, both fresh and in pints.

Omg, don't be such a drama queen. Changing gloves? Seriously? I'd be more concerned about the spit on my baked potato rather than a touch of gluten. My daughter has celiac disease and she doesn't have any trouble after eating things that may have touched gluten items. You're not going to die from it. Eat at home if you're going to be so damn picky.

Are you kidding me right now??? Omg lol. Just because your daughter is fine it doesn't mean everyone is!! I thought my son was fine from "not being picky" too, until we had to rush him to the er and his liver enzymes were thru the roof!! He was yellow!! After all kinds of testing they decided it was the McDonald's fries he'd been eating all week! So GTFO with that bs!

BTW there are different levels of severity with celiac.

Heads up, Mc Ds fries in the USA have wheat in them, it is some in other countries and Canada that have the reported safe ones.

FRENCH FRIES

Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [Wheat and Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (Maintain Color), Salt. *Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients.
Contains: WHEAT, MILK.

Cooked in the same fryer that we use for Donut Sticks which contain a wheat and milk allergen.

Hi Andrea!

This blog is ancient.  It was posted in 2009.  I do not even know if the blogger even has celiac disease and she is no longer an active member.  So, the information should not be used as it is most likely not current.

I personally avoid eating out.  When I do, I eat at 100% gluten-free restaurants.  This works for me.  My last endoscopy revealed healthy healed villi.  Eating out, especially at fast food joints, is too risky for me.  I try to avoid non-processed foods and when I do, I take conformity in buying certified gluten free products that have been tested.

I hope your son heals fast!
