Celiac.com 09/08/2021 - Even with a clear declaration by the FDA that all distilled alcohol is gluten-free, we still get a lot of questions about alcohol, and cocktails. Specifically, get a lot of questions about gluten-free cocktails with Jameson's whiskey.

One question we see a lot is about whiskey. Specifically, is Jameson's whiskey gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is yes.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
According to the FDA, all distilled spirits, including whiskey, are gluten-free, so that means Jameson's and other major whiskeys, even those distilled from grains, are gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease.

While nearly all whiskeys are made with gluten-containing cereal grains, the final product is gluten-free, according to the FDA. Many people with celiac disease choose to avoid whiskey made from cereal grains, while many others drink it with no adverse effects.

Whiskey distilled from gluten-free grains or other gluten-free ingredients contain no gluten ingredients from start to finish, and are naturally gluten-free.

Remember, unless gluten ingredients are added after distillation, all whiskey, including Jameson's, is gluten-free. As always, read labels, and choose carefully. For more information, check the Jameson's website.

    Gluten-free Jameson's varieties include:

    • Jameson Irish Whiskey
    • Jameson Cold Brew
    • Jameson Black Barrel
    • Jameson 18 Year old Aged Irish Whiskey
    • Jameson 18 Years

The only Jameson whiskeys we are not sure about are the ones aged in beer barrels, including:

    • Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition
    • Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition

Since the whiskey is rested in beer barrels after distillation, the final product could contain gluten. Use caution.

Is Whiskey Gluten-Free and Safe for People with Celiac Disease?
Celiac.com 03/21/2020 - Can people with celiac disease safely drink whiskey, or other grain alcohol? This is one of the questions we still see a great deal, even though we’ve published a number of articles and lists about gluten-free alcoholic beverages, including whiskey.
There are two answers to this question, which reflects two different viewpoints and two different sets of criteria.
    Distillation Removes Gluten
The first answer is that all distilled beverages are regarded as gluten-free by the American Dietetic Association, and by the overwhelming consensus among scientists and celiac disease experts. This is true, the reasoning goes, because the process of distillation removes any gluten molecules from the resulting liquid. That’s true even for whiskey, gin, and...

FDA Rules All Distilled Alcohol is Gluten-Free
Celiac.com 08/19/2020 - The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ruled that distilled foods and spirits made from gluten-containing grains can be labelled as ‘gluten-free.’ The FDA ruling covers fermented and distilled foods, or foods that contain fermented or distilled ingredients, which are made using gluten-containing grains such as rye, barley and wheat. The ruling changes the previous FDA requirement that distilled products labeled "gluten-free" must contain no gluten ingredients from start to finish.
The change was hailed by Chris Swonger, president and CEO of the the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (Discus), who said: “We commend FDA for this consumer-friendly ruling that will allow ‘gluten-free’ labelling claims to be included on distilled foods made from...
